Celebrate Mother's Day the way it was meant to be... with a little peace and justice!

This Sunday, May 9 is Mother’s Day and we’re encouraging everyone to Take Back the Day with the peace and justice organization Inter Pares. Hello Cool World helped create the campaign to reclaim the original meaning of Mother’s Day and are big supporters of Inter Pares. They work internationally with grassroots groups and activists, and have a particular focus on empowering women. You can learn more about Inter Pares (Latin for “among equals”) at: www.takebacktheday.ca

Check out the short animated on the real, radical “her-story” of Mother’s Day, a day rooted in social activism and the inspiring stories of its 3 extraordinary founding foremothers.

How You Can Help

The best way to support Take Back the Day is by making a gift at www.TakeBackTheDay.ca and sending e-cards far and wide. Each gift gives you ten cards so you can pay tribute to all the women making a difference in your life. You can personalize your e-cards by adding your own photo too. Your gift will support the women and organizations who are continuing the real Mother’s Day legacy by building healthier, peaceful, and equitable societies around the world.

Let’s take back Mother’s Day from the throes of commercialism and honour women around the world working for change! Because all our mothers deserve a little peace and justice.

Thank you for reading this story...

More people are reading rabble.ca than ever and unlike many news organizations, we have never put up a paywall – at rabble we’ve always believed in making our reporting and analysis free to all. But media isn’t free to produce. rabble’s total budget is likely less than what big corporate media spend on photocopying (we kid you not!) and we do not have any major foundation, sponsor or angel investor. Our only supporters are people and organizations -- like you. This is why we need your help.

If everyone who visits rabble and likes it chipped in a couple of dollars per month, our future would be much more secure and we could do much more: like the things our readers tell us they want to see more of: more staff reporters and more work to complete the upgrade of our website.

We’re asking if you could make a donation, right now, to set rabble on solid footing in 2017.
