May 14 - National Day of Action for Electoral Reform
Only 40 per cent of Canadians supported our government in the May 2 election, and yet we wound up with a Conservative majority. The fact that Stephen Harper now controls Parliament after gaining only 1.8 per cent more of the popular vote than in 2008 is a testament to the arbitrary and antiquated nature of Canada's parliamentary system.
We need an electoral process in which everybody's vote counts. We need a government that represents us.

Près du deux tiers des canadiens n'ont pas voté pour le gouvernement actuel, et pourtant on s'est ramassés avec un gouvernement conservateur majoritaire. La réalité s'installe : Stephen Harper contrôle actuellement le parlement canadien avec une majorité de députés après avoir obtenu seulement 1.8% des voies de plus qu'en 2008. Cela témoigne du caractère arbitraire, voire périmé, de notre système parlementaire.
Il nous faut un système électoral où chaque vote peut compter. Ça nous prend un gouvernement qui nous représente.
Un tel système n'aurait pas à se débarasser de la représentation régionale. Le parlement allemand, par exemple, est constitué d'un mélange de corps législatifs régionaux et proportionnels.
Dans les prochains mois, on ne peut pas laisser le parti conservateur régner sans opposition. Le parti de Stephen Harper ne le mérite pas! La population ne peut pas se le permettre!

Yes krystalline, we need a radical change in our electoral system. We need to have the right and the ability to change our vote when we change our mind. That means, the ability to recall our political representatives anytime, not four years down the road.
When we the citizens have the right to initiate legislation, measure our public support for all political decisions by referendums, and be able to recall our representatives, then we will have an evolved electoral system. In other words: Direct Democracy.
