In solidarity with Indigenous struggles, Occupy Toronto marched on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, to raise awareness about the links between Indigenous issues and struggles against austerity, privatization and Neo-Liberalism, and sovereignty.

1,000 Indigenous rights activists and allies marched through downtown, stopping at RBC to protest the tar sands and Gold Corporation to protest mining issues. The march finally ended at Queen’s Park.

They marched to support their own decolonization as well as the larger decolonization needed for our society.

Occupy Toronto recognizes we are occupying already occupied lands. We say no to the violent imposition of economic austerity, industrial development and privatization on ourselves, and on people around the world.

We are fighting for our right to a truly democratic society and we recognize the struggle for the 99 per cent is fighting the same forces that indigenous and other colonized peoples have been fighting for centuries.

Drawing from the inspiring lessons from all four directions, we seek to support and share stories of successful community resistance against colonialism, racism and imperialism.

Here is a link to photos I took from yesterday’s (de)Occupy Toronto march in solidarity with Indigenous rights and I am honoured that Occupy Toronto chose to celebrate its one month anniversary in this manner. Please view and enjoy.

Please also consider attending Indigenous Sovereignty Week – Toronto from Monday November 14 to Sunday November 21, 2011.

Thanks,
