The Call Out:

Design + Occupy

We will design a fairer, more equitable system for the whole 100 per cent.
(When we do, what will it look like?)

RSVP: [email protected]

Join us for the first in a series of panel discussions, hosted by The CSI Design Common, that examines current issues through the lens of design. We will look at design as a tool for creating change across disciplines, starting with the Occupy Movement and ways that design can be used to put solutions into action.

On our panel are people working to create systemic change, locally and globally, through various capacities from activism to planning.

Panelists:

Tonya Surman, Executive Director, Centre for Social Innovation

Jed Kilbourn, Planner, Urban Strategies Inc.

Dr. Margaret Kohn, Department of Political Science, University of Toronto and author of Brave new neighborhoods: the privatization of public space

Taylor Chelsea, Activist, Occupy Toronto

Dr. Greg Evans, Positive Psychology, The Happiness Enhancement Group

Krystalline Kraus, Activist, Occupy Toronto and journalist for rabble.ca

Moderator:

Sarah Tranum, Design Strategist, TrickleUp Design & member of The CSI Design Common

Be a part of the conversation and the solution as we explore what a fairer economic and political system can look like and how we can start re-designing the existing ones so that no one is left behind.

We will look at the issues raised by the Occupy Movement through the various disciplines represented by the panelists and use design thinking to imagine better solutions and how they can be realized. We will also be asking the audience to do the same — to explore their own worldview of the Occupy Movement, its impact on their thinking, and their vision for designing a more equitable future.

This event is hosted by The CSI Design Common, a new space at the Centre for Social Innovation that aims to ignite, support and promote design for social innovation. Through programming, dialogue and professional development our members push the boundaries of design, social entrepreneurship, and inter-disciplinary collaboration.
