Two Occupy Toronto events on Saturday

1: Occupy Toronto Contingent to “No Prison Expansion! March against C-10

Saturday December 10, 2011
3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
St. James Park
King Street and Jarvis Street
Toronto, ON

No Prison Expansion
March and Noisy Demonstration
Bring noise-makers, family and friends

On December 10, 2011, we will gather at St James park, the past site of Occupy Toronto. From there, we will march to the Don Jail in order to express our hatred of prisons and our contempt for the criminal (in)justice system. Harper’s crime bill is an attempt to lock more of us away for petty crimes — to fill Canadian jails with drug users and people struggling with mental health issues.

“The bill’s policy on mandatory minimum sentencing for selling, or even giving away a small amount of drugs, will criminalize a generation and attack some of the most vulnerable people in our society.” — full rabble.ca article here.

2: Candlelight vigil for the death of democracy

Saturday December 10, 2011
8:00 p.m.
Nathan Phillips Square
Toronto, ON

The vigil will start in Nathan Phillips Square, and the General Assembly will end early if need be in order to accommodate our funeral procession (for Democracy) to Queen’s Park, where we will then hold our vigil.

The onmibus crime bill C-10 threatens human rights and allows for the violation of charter rights and freedoms. It is being passed undemocratically. Canadian democracy has failed many, but it will now fail many more including the poor, undocumented, indigenous and people of colour.

Together we can say NO to mega-prisons in Canada and reverse Harper’s crime bill.

Come to City Hall for 8:00 p.m., and get ready to march in the vigil as soon as the Occupy Toronto General Assembly is finished. Without our keeping watch, democracy will not work for us.
