The Call Out:
Camp Sis Women and Trans Music Festival and Retreat will commence at noon Friday August 17th and conclude at 5:00 pm Sunday August 19th.
The festival begins with an Aboriginal opening prayer on Friday afternoon and will end with a prayer on Sunday.
You can start your morning feeling even more relaxed and stress free with our Yoga Instructor, Pat, who will be hosting a 10 am meditation and stretching on Saturday and Sunday morning in a designated area. Join us for a sisterhood stretch and wake up.
We extend an invitation to all politically and socially engaged women at the festival to join their friends and allies for our daily workshops which will be offered. On Saturday morning Kim and Pam will commence a ” I am the center” workshop to get it started, where women can have an opportunity to introduce themselves and share their passion and work in the communities they advocate for. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the bigger community and to become more involved.
Workshops will consist of team building exercises, creating and making percussion instruments, drumming, guitar and songwriting, self-defense, individual positive thinking and bonding with your sisters. Maria will also be hosting a dancing workshop! Get your dancing shoes on!
On Friday and Saturday evening feel free to dance anywhere you please or to sing along with the musicians/artists who will be serenading from the stage till 11 p.m. Women artists will come together to share stories through music and spoken word, to talk about personal and collective struggles and to unite all through music, spoken word and education. Music is an effective way to positively engage others in dialogue about real issues: poverty, oppression, aboriginal rights, women’s rights, prisoners rights, the environment, sexism, racism, capitalism, immigration rights, homophobia and the list goes on and on and on………
Come 11 at night, we will collectively join the campfire circles with guitars in hand to continue the music and story telling. A late night campfire, sister bonding, acoustics, singing and marshmallow roasting commences. Again, we encourage all women to bring their instruments and voices along! We will sit, talk and sing until sleepy eyes greet us. We don’t suggest that you not go to bed but feel free to stay up all night if you want.
