The Call Out:

Social Justice Week aims to educate, empower and mobilize students to become active agents for social change on campus and in their community. We encourage participants to reflect upon how our experiences and backgrounds shape the varying perspectives, forms of power and privileges we each bring with us while participating in Social Justice Week activities. With this in mind, we commit to lovingly open our minds, engage and challenge our own and others’ biased or discriminatory behaviours and comments.

Throughout the week, make an effort to learn about fellow participants, their experiences and their backgrounds. Leave judgements of others aside and recognize that we cannot understand all the different experiences and barriers that people face.

Social Justice Week also aims to create a positive space for democratic meetings where all can participate meaningfully regardless of race, gender, class, sexuality, age or ability. We also recognize that Social Justice Week takes place on Anniishnaabe land and participants studying and organizing on campus and throughout their communities also takes place on territories of Indigenous Peoples.
