This is rabble.ca's staff blog. Visit this blog regularly for updates about rabble, and comments and observations from staff members, with occasional visits by board members and volunteers. Our staff blog is represented by our website "mascot" Ruckus, the sock monkey, who joined us in 2006. Ruckus cheers us on through fundraising campaigns and membership drives, and reminds us to keep perspective in the midst of the challenges of running an independent media website.

Last day for that summer giveaway!

| August 7, 2009

Weeeeee're back! You know the story. We think rabble.ca is pretty special but one thing that doesn't set us apart is that like all community media organizations we depend on membership to keep going. Today is the last day of our summer membership drive where you can still get our bonus gifts -- signed copies of great books by some of the most exciting authors around (no tote bags here).

Plus, of course, when you become a member (for as little as $5/month) you get a free subscription to a great progressive magazine! So don't delay, sign up today!

Here's a list of the books we are giving away:

Maude Barlow, Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water

Rawi Hage, Cockroach

Lawrence Hill, Any Known Blood
