This is rabble.ca's staff blog. Visit this blog regularly for updates about rabble, and comments and observations from staff members, with occasional visits by board members and volunteers. Our staff blog is represented by our website "mascot" Ruckus, the sock monkey, who joined us in 2006. Ruckus cheers us on through fundraising campaigns and membership drives, and reminds us to keep perspective in the midst of the challenges of running an independent media website.

Big media can't be trusted

| May 20, 2011

"If anyone was to be perturbed by a Harper majority, it's the folks at rabble.ca, the left-wing online news site." Sarah Boesveld - National Post, May 4, 2011

That's for sure. At least we are in good company, very large company. But not "large company" like the media conglomerates who endorsed Mr. Harper and the Conservatives for the election claiming he has "shown leadership. . . and discipline" (Globe and Mail) or that he brings "stability" (National Post) to Canada. Big media can't be trusted to tell the real story on issues that matter most to you. Canada's big media can be found toying around with the climate crisis, beating war drums, disparaging labour, supporting corporate tax cuts and more. The fact is they just aren't that into you.

We are. We work hard to tell your stories and raise your issues, issues millions of Canadians care about. At rabble we stand by our slogan "news for the rest of us", community based and community supported. We have recently started our annual spring fundraising drive and urge you to become a member at $5/month.

Support media that is on your side.
