This is rabble.ca's staff blog. Visit this blog regularly for updates about rabble, and comments and observations from staff members, with occasional visits by board members and volunteers. Our staff blog is represented by our website "mascot" Ruckus, the sock monkey, who joined us in 2006. Ruckus cheers us on through fundraising campaigns and membership drives, and reminds us to keep perspective in the midst of the challenges of running an independent media website.

Elections Act prohibits posting election results before all polls close

| May 2, 2011

Our readers and contributors are advised that rabble is adhering to the Canada Elections Act that strictly prohibits "premature transmission of results" until the last polls have closed in every electoral district in the country.

According to the Elections Canada website: "No person shall transmit the result or purported result of the vote in an electoral district to the public in another electoral district before the close of all of the polling stations in that other electoral district."

Commenters or babble participants found to be violating these rules will result in an immediate suspension of their rabble accounts.

From east to west, poll closings (local time) are as follows:

Newfoundland - 7:30 p.m.

Atlantic - 8:30 p.m.

Eastern - 9:30 p.m.
