This is rabble.ca's staff blog. Visit this blog regularly for updates about rabble, and comments and observations from staff members, with occasional visits by board members and volunteers. Our staff blog is represented by our website "mascot" Ruckus, the sock monkey, who joined us in 2006. Ruckus cheers us on through fundraising campaigns and membership drives, and reminds us to keep perspective in the midst of the challenges of running an independent media website.

The little budget that could: rabble.ca finalist for Canadian Online Publishing Awards

| October 14, 2011

The best things probably do sometimes come in small packages. At rabble.ca we use our small (tiny really) budget to bring news for the rest of us to Canada and the world. We do this through original news articles, blogs, podcasts, video (live and pre-recorded), a moderated discussion board, an "activist toolkit", a Canada-wide events calendar, a book section focusing on Canadian content, newswire, reprints, special "issue" sections, and more. And guess who noticed?

This year rabble.ca is a finalist at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards in two categories -- "Best overall website (online only)" and "Best news" site. Nice to get recognition from the judges, from the Globe and Mail, to BlogTO, to CBC News online, to NOW and many more.

As always, thanks to the communities that make community media possible. Thanks to our sustaining partners and everyone who has contributed content, funds, work and volunteer time to build the community-supported site that is rabble.

The winners are announced at an event Monday October 24th at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto.
