This is rabble.ca's staff blog. Visit this blog regularly for updates about rabble, and comments and observations from staff members, with occasional visits by board members and volunteers. Our staff blog is represented by our website "mascot" Ruckus, the sock monkey, who joined us in 2006. Ruckus cheers us on through fundraising campaigns and membership drives, and reminds us to keep perspective in the midst of the challenges of running an independent media website.

Too independent to be charitable

| January 28, 2012

With the New Year recently upon us, some have resolved to be more charitable. However, rabble.ca is so fiercely independent we can't be charitable, at least in the legal sense. This means the government can't tell us what we can and cannot do and what we can and cannot report to keep our funding. Because of our independence (and non-charitable status) we can report on what we want to report on. We wouldn't have it any other way.

This is where you come in. The best way to preserve our independence is with a lot of people giving a bit. Please pledge your support right now to rabble.ca and bask in independent news.

The good news is that with your pledge you not only keep us going and growing but you can win, amongst other prizes, one of two $250 gift certificates at a cool camera shop. Learn more here.

For those that have already put their money where their mouse is, thank you! Please tell a friend about your donation and us!

Thank you for visiting and supporting rabble.ca!
