Please join us for a city-wide rally to stand in solidarity with the people of Libya, Bahrain, and the wider Arab world as they fight for freedom and democracy.

In Libya, ordinary people have risen up against the 42-year dictatorship of Muammar Gaddafi, and continue to resist his brutal attacks. We oppose military intervention by foreign governments in Libya and support the Libyan people's struggle to free themselves and build their own democracy. We demand that the Canadian government cut all ties with Gaddafi's regime, and force Canadian companies doing business with Gaddafi to withdraw.

The extraordinary events that have convulsed North Africa and the Middle East since December represent a historic shift. After a long period of political reaction that arose following the defeat of the last wave of international revolutionary struggles (1968-75), the working class is returning to the political arena determined to fight.

As a protest against women being left off the committee to revise Egypt's constitution, Cairo today saw A Million Women March as part of International Women's Day. Many are worried that their demands will not be heard in a post-Mubarak Egypt. Rahat Kurd describes the power of Egyptian feminists and their roles in the recent uprising and revolution, as well as their roles within Islam.

National Libya solidarity rallies

Hundreds of democracy protesters are being massacred by the regime of Muammar Qaddafi in Libya. The United Nations is in emergency meetings right now and could freeze the regime's assets, impose a no-fly zone, and threaten trials in international courts.

Protesters, who are demanding regime change and basic rights, are reporting that thousands of people are still taking to the streets, even though hundreds have been massacred. The people of Libya are being gunned down for demanding freedom, health, education, and a decent wage - basic needs that we all share.

Please join the rallies to stand in solidarity with the Libyan people, and to tell Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Canadian government to oppose Qaddafi's regime.

Now anything is possible!

What began as a single act of desperation in Tunisia has led to a series of significant uprisings of millions of people in Egypt and beyond. In a region that has long suffered the impacts of colonial exploitation, oppressive puppet tyrants, and chronic misrepresentation, we are now witnessing a historic moment in which people are rising up to reclaim their lives, present and future. The world is watching, but what are we seeing? Join us for a timely and much needed discussion and analysis as these historical events unfold.
