WORLD PREMIERE TO JOIN ‘GOLDEN CENTURY' CLASSICS

Composer in Residence, Rob Teehan premieres his commissioned work with Sinfonia Toronto under Maestro Nurhan Arman. In addition, Canadian pianist Lucille Chung will be featured in Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4. The program also features Dvorak's Quintet op. 77.

Pianist Eugene Skovorodnikov and violinist Victor Kuleshov join forces for Chausson's Concerto for Violin and Piano with Sinfonia Toronto and conductor Nurhan Arman.

Sinfonia Toronto's next Masterpiece Series concert will feature the virtuosic Double Bass Concerto No. 2 by Bottesini performed by orchestra member, double bassist Calum MacLeod and Jeonghwan Yoon on violin.

In commenting on the program, Music Director Nurhan Arman states "It is a wonderful opportunity to perform the Bottesini's Double Bass Concerto No. 2 with a soloist from within the orchestra. This incredibly challenging piece is a treat for the orchestra and audience."

Music Director, Nurhan Arman will conduct the concert. The orchestra will also perform Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No. 15, and the Toronto premiere of Angelova's Pagan Dances.

Virtuosic clarinetist James Campbell returns to Toronto to perform Mozart's Clarinet Quintet. The program also features pianist Dmitry Gordin in Shostakovich's Piano Quintet. The orchestra's Music Director Nurhan Arman will conduct the performance. The program also includes Mozart's Sinfonia K. 137.

Hailed as "Canada's pre-eminent clarinetist and wind soloist" (Toronto Star), James Campbell has performed as a soloist with some of the world's most prominent orchestras, including four performances of Copeland's Clarinet Concerto with the composer conducting. Over thirty pieces have been written for him and he also boasts an impressive discography. Mr. Campbell is currently Professor of Clarinet at Indiana University.

Sinfonia Toronto's concert will charm all this holiday season. Serbian conductor Robert Bokor will conduct the program featuring dazzling violinist Sanghee Cheong in Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 1. Other works on the program include Corelli's Christmas Concerto, Buhr's Ricercare, and Wolf-Ferrari's Serenade.

Currently Artistic Director of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Robert Bokor also began his tenure as Chief Conductor of the Austrian Arpeggione Chamber Orchestra in March 2011. Praised as a strong advocate for contemporary music, Maestro Bokor has conducted concerts in many European countries, Israel, and the United States.

Legendary Canadian pianist André Laplante will perform with Sinfonia Toronto under Maestro Nurhan Arman. Mr. Laplante will be heard in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

The ‘Laplante’s Beethoven’ program will complement this masterwork with Albinoni’s renowned Adagio, Rorate Coeli by University of Toronto faculty member Norbert Palej and Schubert’s Quartet in G Minor in a new orchestral version.

Canadian violin virtuoso Andréa Tyniec will join Sinfonia Toronto and conductor Nurhan Arman to perform remarkable German composer Karl Hartmann’s Concerto Funebre.

In commenting on the program Sinfonia Toronto’s Conductor Nurhan Arman said “Hartmann was the only German composer who had the courage to protest against the Nazi regime. Concerto Funebre was written after Hitler’s invasion of Czechoslovakia”.

Two chamber music gems Schubert’s Quartettsatz and Mozart’s Quintet in C will be performed in an orchestral version.

Tickets are $40 adult; $32 senior and $12 student.

Sinfonia Toronto’s next masterpiece series concert will feature an important Canadian premiere, the first performance of a work for piano and orchestra by Czech composer Vitezslava Kapralova. 

Pianist Sara Buechner will join Sinfonia Toronto and conductor Nurhan Arman to perform Kapralova’s Partita. Ms. Buechner gave the U.S. premiere of this work. She will also be heard in Turina’s Rapsodia Sinfonica. The orchestra will also perform Brahms’ Variations and Fugue on a theme of Handel and JUNO-award winning Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich’s Fantasia.

Award-winning violinist Judy Kang will perform with Sinfonia Toronto. She will perform the expressive Affairs of the Heart for solo violin and orchestra by Canada’s Juno award-winning composer Marjan Mozetich. The orchestra’s music director Nurhan Arman will conduct. Other works on the program are Mozart’s Quartet K 157 in an orchestral version and Fuchs’ romantic Serenade in E Minor. 

Toronto-born violinist Judy Kang is a rising star on the international music scene. Her remarkable musical prowess has resulted in a successful career as a soloist, including her critically acclaimed New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall.
