Now in its 10th year, Toronto's annual winter folk and blues festival is back, and has moved to a new location, the Delta Chelsea Hotel (33 Gerrard St. W.). The festival showcases both established and developing roots artists. This year's performers include David Essig, Lynn Miles, Jory Nash, Laura Fernandez, Tony Quarrington, Mr. Rick & the Biscuits, Danny Marks, Jaron Freeman Fox & the Opposite of Everything, The Lemon Bucket Orkestra and the Wanted. Most events are pay what you can, and people of all ages are welcome.

Rafeef Ziadah

Rafeef Ziadah is a Palestinian spoken word artist who recently released her debut album Hadeel in 2009 with grant support from the Ontario Arts Council. Rafeef Ziadah's spoken word performances are rooted in the Palestinian struggle for freedom and the key role that performance poetry has played in addressing struggles for social justice around the world. In parallel to artist work Ziadah is actively involved in the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA) in Toronto and the Toronto Palestine Film Festival.

Famed Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov teams up with one of the world's best-loved singers, soprano Dawn Upshaw in a passionate evening that explores Goliov's most vibrant work, including his soul stirring There is Wind and There are Ashes on a text of Elie Wiesel, Tekiyah, Lua Descolorida, and Last Round. The program also features evocative works by Spanish-Canadian composer José Evangelista. Performers include member of the Amici Chamber Ensemble; clarinetist and conductor Joaquin Valdepenas and cellist David Hetherington, The Amici Strings, and rising star, Canadian mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta.

This breath-taking retrospective features the North American debut of the acclaimed Polish Chamber Choir from Gdansk. Sinfonia Toronto's 2009/2010 Masterpiece Series continues, highlighting romantic pianism at its best. This concert features Toronto's own piano virtuoso Yuval Fichman.

Yuval Fichman made his debut with the Montreal Symphony and the Toronto Symphony in 1982, and has continued to appear as a guest soloist with orchestras throughout Canada and the US, and performed with the MSO on its 1984 European tour and with the Vancouver Symphony on its 1985 Japanese tour. He has also performed for several film soundtracks including Don McKellar's "Last Night" (music by Oscar winning composer Howard Shore), Francois Girard's 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould and Larry Weinstein's Beethoven's Hair. In addition, Yuval has recorded a CD with cellist Yo-Yo Ma for Kabuki artist Tamasaburo Bando.

British composer Jonathan Harvey is renowned for the beauty, imagination and variety of his choral works. In his first visit to Toronto, we present his most stunning works in the debut performance of Soundstreams' own Choir 21 under the direction of David Fallis, music director of Opera Atelier and the Toronto Consort. This ecstatic program takes its inspiration from many sources including e.e. cummings, Christianity, Buddhism, Sanskrit, and Medieval Mysticism. It features music by John Tavener, Palestrina and Canadian composer Gilles Tremblay, whose ethereal L'espace du coeur is on e of the most powerful spiritual works in Canadian repertoire.
