Lecture: Travelogue with Peter Jarrett

Come hear Jarrett's description of his travels and observations of Kuna Yala, where molas are made. His talk will be illustrated with the extraordinary photos he has taken over the last several years while living part-time on his boat off the coast of Panama.

Seminar: Adam's Simple Ration with Stephen Schofield

Spend a day with the artist that includes an illustrated lecture, a walkthrough of the exhibition, and experimentation with eggs to produce temporary sculptures. Test the potential of food as an art-making material and consider the poetic transformations that take place when "Adam's simple ration" is put to use.

Film Screening: Michel Perrin's Molakana: Sewing the World

French ethnologist Michel Perrin saw a mola for the first time in 1975 and became enthralled.

Twenty-eight years later he made Molakana: Sewing the World, a film about molas and the Kuna people. Come see views of the San Blas Islands and bright scenes of molas being made in this homage to Kuna women and their artwork. Film length: 52 minutes.

Workshop: Mola-making with Domitila De León De Fernandez

Domitila de León de Fernandez has been making molas since she was a girl, and learned from her mother and all the women in her community in Ustupu, Kuna Yala, Panama. She is the great-granddaughter of one of the leaders of the Kuna revolution, Nele Kantule. Explore the intricate art of mola-making with a Kuna expert.

Spend a day with the artist and explore embroidery as a creative and experimental method of expression where patterns, drawings, and images can be transferred and embroidered onto various unusual surfaces. Includes an illustrated lecture on historical, narrative, and rogue embroidery, and embroidery in relation to taxidermy.

Exciting News -- World Record Attempt! 

That's Women's Work, sponsored by Wise Daughters Craft Market with community partner Street Knit are attempting to break the world record for the moste people knitting at the same time, in the same place.  We need 1000 people just to beat the current record, more if we would like to hold it!

This family friendly event will occur on Saturday June 12th, from 1pm-4pm at the Junction Train Platform, with the world record attempt happening at 3 p.m.  Please arrive at 1 p.m. as only those registered and signed will be counted in the attempt.
