Canada's Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Jason Kenney continues to set up new discriminatory hurdles for today's immigrants.
The cure for layoffs: Fire the boss
In 2004 we made a documentary called The Take about Argentina's movement of worker-run businesses. In the wake of the country's dramatic economic collapse in 2001, thousands of workers walked into their shuttered factories and put them back into production as worker cooperatives. Abandoned by bosses and politicians, they regained unpaid wages and severance while reclaiming their jobs.
As we toured Europe and North America with the film, every Q&A ended up with the question, That's all very well in Argentina, but could that ever happen here?
Caribbean Migrant Workers' Welcome
Location
This event marks the third year that we have successfully organized a welcome/appreciation service for the Caribbean men and women who come up to work on the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program. It has been gaining momentum and this year we expect over 200 workers to attend, in addition to local members of the community and politicians.
It promises to be a joyful night of celebration as we welcome back these wonderful additions to our community, featuring lively Jamaican music and special guest performance by Juno-nominated group Newworldson. Refreshments to follow.
All are welcome to participate in these festivities, so join us and find out what you've been missing!
