Veggie dog giveaway on Labour Day in front of Quality Meat Packers

Sep 5 2011 - 11:00am
Sep 5 2011 - 3:00pm

Location

Stanley Park (across from Quality Meat Packers)
700 Wellington St. W. southwest of King and Bathurst
Toronto, ON
Canada
43° 38' 29.6952" N, 79° 24' 26.8596" W

Toronto Pig Save, TARVE, and other groups will be giving out free veggie dogs and fruit juices in a neighbourhood overshadowed by a pig slaughterhouse. It's time to take back the neighbourhood and show what is possible.

We will be promoting an alternative vision for the Niagara neighbourhood. Instead of a pig slaughterhouse, Toronto Pig Save is advocating for a just transition for workers on Labour Day - safe, fulfilling, and meaningful jobs needed to support a food economy that is local, organic, and whole grain and plant based (that is, vegan).

There will be pig puppets and costumes, story telling, face painting for kids, and music.

What does it mean that Karl Marx is back in fashion?

What is the significance of the way not only Keynes but even Marx has been brought back into fashion amidst the global economic crisis? This is a question well worth pondering on the day that is officially designated to celebrate the class that Marx saw as carrying the promise -- and the responsibility -- of creating a better world.
