FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Monday, September 27, 2010

Toronto -- Federal Court Judge Richard Mosley issued a 60-page ruling today that slams the federal government for attempting to ban former British MP George Galloway from entering Canada. The ruling vindicates Galloway and his Canadian supporters who argued that Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Jason Kenney made a political decision to try to keep Galloway out of Canada, not one based on national security claims.

According to Justice Mosley, "the main reason why the respondents [the Federal government] sought to prevent Mr. Galloway from entering Canada was that they disagreed with his political views."

Post Taglit-Birthright: Hebron -- 500 settlers, 2,000 soldiers and the tensest place I've ever been

'I look up at a net hanging above the souk. It’s full of garbage and other debris. The Jewish settlers, who number about 500, have built homes above the market street. I am told the net is to protect the Palestinians below.' Photo: Rachel Marcuse.

In July, activist Rachel Marcuse spent 10 days in Israel as part of the Taglit-Birthright program -- a fully sponsored trip for young North American Jews to learn more about the country. She went to bear witness and ask questions about the Israeli state's treatment of Palestinians, and to learn about other complex issues in Israel today. After the program, she spent another 10 days elsewhere in Israel and the West Bank of Palestine talking to Israeli Jews, Arab Israelis, international activists, and Palestinians. This is the final segment of a seven-part series on what she found.

Two activists speak out about G8/G20 CSIS intimidation: Freda Guttman's story

Freda Guttman

Two Montreal activists, Freda Guttman and Stefan Christoff, say they and their friends have been targeted by CSIS in the run up to the Huntsville G8 and Toronto G20 summits. Both write exclusively for rabble.ca on what they are experiencing.

Freda Guttman's story is below. Read Stefan Christoff's by clicking here.

On April 7, 2010, a knock at my door brought me face-to-face with a CSIS agent who asked if he could come in and speak to me. Fortunately, knowing that I had no legal obligation to speak to him, I refused his invitation to chat and shut the door in his protesting face.
