The Textile Museum of Canada is pleased to launch reDesign 2011.

This summer, 36 leading Toronto artists, designers and architects were involved in a project to redesign and re-imagine Louis XVI-style armchairs, to be sold at silent auction. Proceeds from the sale will support the Textile Museum of Canada's exhibitions, collections and public programs. Please join us for this special gala evening.

Come hear Jarrett's description of his travels and observations of Kuna Yala, where molas are made. His talk will be illustrated with the extraordinary photos he has taken over the last several years while living part-time on his boat off the coast of Panama.

Film Screening: Michel Perrin's Molakana: Sewing the World

French ethnologist Michel Perrin saw a mola for the first time in 1975 and became enthralled.

Twenty-eight years later he made Molakana: Sewing the World, a film about molas and the Kuna people. Come see views of the San Blas Islands and bright scenes of molas being made in this homage to Kuna women and their artwork. Film length: 52 minutes.

Workshop: Mola-making with Domitila De León De Fernandez

Domitila de León de Fernandez has been making molas since she was a girl, and learned from her mother and all the women in her community in Ustupu, Kuna Yala, Panama. She is the great-granddaughter of one of the leaders of the Kuna revolution, Nele Kantule. Explore the intricate art of mola-making with a Kuna expert.

Bargain-hunting fibre addicts will descend on the TMC for the annual More Than Just A Yardage Sale. Created and run by the Museum's volunteers, the sale is a bonanza for textile aficionados and a major fundraiser for the Museum. Shoppers will have their pick of an eclectic mix that includes yardages, yarns, patterns, quilt fabrics, notions and crafts.
