In opposition to the Conservatives' transformational C-10 omnibus crime bill, Quebec, Ontario and Newfoundland are refusing to take on the costs associated with the bill. British Columbia and Manitoba are similarly concerned about the costs of the federal legislation, asking for a full-accounting of the bill's provisions and cost-sharing agreements with the federal government.

Tory times are tough times. Tough times for Canadian families; hundreds of thousands of whom have lost their primary supporting jobs; jobs that came with benefits and pensions; jobs that allowed you to raise a family. Tough times for the hundreds of thousands of young people who have witnessed the exploding cost of higher education, a four-year degree now costs on average 460 per cent more than it did just 15 years ago, and tough times for our seniors trying to live on the rapidly devaluing Canada Pension Plan while struggling to pay exploding heating, medication and food costs.
