Scrabble, the best game ever invented!

I've always loved this game but it's moved up to addiction level this spring. I've added 100 points to my former average game and am now scoring a bingo (all seven letters out in one turn, worth 50 points) once per game, more often than not. I know it's a waste of time but it is so much fun! Anybody else here with such a problem?
Chess is my addiction.

Love scrabble used to play every morning over coffee with my daughter, definitely addictive. Used to play it on line too.
Crossword puzzles, I am addicted to the Sunday puzzle in The New York Times.
I used to play a fair bit of Scrabble with a roommate in London. To my disadvantage, he had the Scrabble diictionary virtually memorized. I got my revenge at chess. Backgammon was where we were equals.
Pretty hard to memorize the scrabble dictionary. It is almost as big as any ordinary dictionary.
He would read the book repeatedly for fun and quiz himself. He was a philosophy student who was working as a computer programmer. He named his dog Plato. Two good years living with him.
I think it's pretty common to memorize all the two letter words.
I've noticed Scrabble dictionaries are getting more (some would say too) inclusive. "za" for pizza? Give me a break.
I agree, where is the challenge in "za"? I enjoy scrabble too and my sweetie and I used to play for hours at a time, I think the three games in a row exhausted him though. lol
I played Go a long time ago and was obsessed with it to the point of dreaming Go strategies.
Easy to remember/memorize 2 letters words.;)

Yea, I've been playing a lot lately. I have been undefeated since the time when I understood the rules properly. Playing online means not having to memorize the list of two letter words although, I should add, I've almost memorized them anyway. I intend to take a break from the game soon.
Perhaps the sting of suffering a defeat will demoralize me? One can only hope. Heh.
I play two versions of Scrabble online through Facebook: Lexulous, and Wordscraper. Lexulous is the better of the two in my opinion. I've been playing the same two opponents for almost two years now, although a few other opponents pop in now and then.
Is there online Sudoku? (Yes, I know I could check but I'm hoping a lurker will slap me to attention.)

I hate Scrabble and any other simular thing like crosswords, sudoku or what have you. They bore me to tears. My partner loves them though.

I'm totally addicted to Kakuro puzzles. They used to be called "cross sums" in the Dell puzzle mags before the sudoku craze hit.
And I'm darn good at them, too!

My secret theory is that I am just not smart enough for such things, but don't tell my partner!!
Here are some kakuro puzzles you can print out for free...I don't find them that great, though.
Settlers of Catan is pretty addictive.
Confession time: I'm a big D&D fan. Like - big time. 20 sided die are my closest friends. In fact, I had to reroll my Papal Bull character recently - unfortunately I discovered I had the charisma of a badger and had to focus mostly on combat skills. That's why I post less now.
That and Risk. Risk is the best game because it is the best way to ruin a long standing friendship.
I'm a scrabble nut too, french and english. English on the internet and french in real life.

OMG me too! I remember a friend of mine rolled using a gun and missed with all of his bullets he got so mad he said I am throwing the gun at him. He rolled double damage and double damage and ended up killing the NPC, it was hilarious! (I have a feeling this is going to be like telling my "there are only 10 people in the world those that understand binary and those that don't" joke)
Table top rules, I never got into any of the video D&D.
Other than that Sudoko and almost any solitare card game. I have stayed up for hours playing solitare.
lol hilarious Refuge. D&D basically comes down to dice assisted group story telling afterall. Theres some Hong Kong Kung Fu role playing game out there where you create an actor (from hong kong of course) and participate in cheesy ass Kung Fu films with everyone playing actors. You hear the basic plotline / characters and then bid on who's actor gets to play what role and then play out the movie (movie's ranging from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, car chase fast and furious style, or something more traditional). Amazingly simple compared to D&D and just hilarious at times, especially if you have a Kung Fu movie nut running the game.
Risk for me...there's enough variations of it out there now. The speed risk is the most recent, but 2010 and the original are still fun.
Ahhh, Fung Shui (just looked it up). Now I just need a role playing group, sigh.
I really like Risk Godstorm. It only takes 5 rounds (max. 30 turns) and based on what cards you pull (and how aggressively the game is played) you can knock the crap off of that number of turns. I remember one time my buddy transported my main army to a plague land and then invaded my capital and killed my god. It was very Nietzchian.
As for D&D? I started getting into the Call of Cthulhu RPG, which is just great because I am a huge Lovecraft geek. I'm actually trying to bone up on my D&D lore/rules/and a good campaign so I can DM for some friends. I've already got props and stuff ready for the game. Really, D&D is just a less geeky version of a drama class.
