The fascinating thing to me is that in Hong Kong, now part of China, people are free to do anything they like about this issue, as they did today, and as the students at the University of Hong Kong did recently when they voted 93 per cent to call on Beijing to apologize for killing pro-democracy demonstrators. Those in Beijing who tried to turn back the clock today are dinosaurs. In the past two years the Chinese news media, and most young people in China, cannot be fooled. This morning Beijing took the BBC website offline. This is a joke to anyone who knows how to surf around such firewalls. This is the last gasp of the old security forces, discrediting themselves. They may lose their little remaining power sooner than we think.
