Lieberman has said he will resign if indicted
Lieberman may step down but this still will not change his public support or his party affiliation. He, and his party (Beiteinu), do carry a good deal of popular support in Israel and this is what is really scary. Beiteinu carried 15 seats and this is not terribly far behind the leading parties in the current Knesset. Lieberman's party is gaining steam with Israeli voters who sympathize with the rhetoric of hate and extreme nationalism.
Yisrael Beiteinu had 86,153 votes in the 1999 Knesset elections and this represented 2.6% of the total votes. Compare that number with 2009 and there is a major jump in popular support. Beiteinu had 394,577 votes in the 2009 Knesset and this represented 11.7% of the total votes. Support is growing immensely for the far-right in Israel.
