After the white-collar misdeeds (legally sanctioned or not) of the past 2 decades, can anyone muster anything more than subdued outrage over these kinds of stories?  I really don't want to be de-sensitized to this kind of thing, but as the perps aren't really punished for their actions (well...Madoff is doing some hard time) and since we aren't rushing to make any changes to close the loopholes (in fact, we spend more of our precious bandwidth on Reality TV than on these kinds of issues,) my question is: Is this really a problem? If so, why is it not being treated as such?  I have my own theories on this, but I'd like to hear some alternative viewpoints on this.
