There are lots of people who have been in abusive situations and were afraid to report it.  There are lots of reasons why women involved in sex work/prostitution are afraid of the police.  Just like a lot of abused women are too scared to report abuse of themselves or their children to police.

As I have shared before, and long before this controversy, I am a survivor of incest, multiple acts of rape, and two domestic abuse relationships as well as prostitution. I have also volunteered at a shelter for women fleeing domestic violence. I am quite clear on how terrifying it is.

We were told of a little girl being prostituted from the ages of 10 to 12. The idea of a group of adults walking away without even making an anonymous phone call leaves me apoplectic with rage. The women were not within an abusive relationship. They left her there and drove to Vancouver.

To suggest that government services in Canada don't exist to deal with the situation is indefensible. While Canadian services may not be as good as they should be police and social services are equiped to take custody of a child who is being prostituted.

It is irresponsible and indefensible to claim that involving authorities is ever the wrong thing to do when a child is being prostituted. That includes the account of the pregnant 12 year old who reached out for help.

It is a reflection on the nature of this board that such things can be said without a collective roar of outrage.
