The three so-called "opposition" parties outdo each other in jingoistic statements:

Ignatieff

Layton

Duceppe

Not one of them mentions that maybe we should get out of Afghanistan. That would be "inappropriate" while all Canada weeps over the brave sacrifice made to keep us safe in our free and democratic beds.

I also searched in vain for any statement mourning the loss of four workers in Toronto.

Oh, sorry, that would be provincial jurisdiction.

It's almost midnight, a new year is dawning, and I feel shame for my country.

Hopefully, after the mission fails and Mullah somebody becomes ruler of the land, not one more dollar of my tax dollar is ever sent there as to not upset the way Afghanistan should be. Then again, Mullah somebody will not want to spend any money on the 8 mill+ kids who now go to school anyways...phew, what a relief.

Yaaaaaaayyy! Happy New Year!!!!

Jeez, I typed in "Afghanistan" into the search window of NDP.ca and let'er rip. And the first result says this:

... the Canadian Forces. The War and Combat Mission in Afghanistan Jack Layton and the New Democrats will: Withdraw all Canadian forces from the Afghanistan combat mission, with reasonable advance notice and in consultation ...

Reality Check: Did Ministers mislead on detainees?

Apparently there's a flap about torture in Afghanistan, and the Harpers want to avoid being roughed up in Parliament by the likes of Jack Layton and the NDP until some time March as a result.

Harper is slipperier'n a snake's belly in a wagon rut during a downpour.

I find the NDP far more "slipperier'n" Harper. This latest NDP release on behalf of our war crimes in Afghanistan is quite clear in its intentions, complicities and mendacities. What a disgusting failure this is and how misguided its defenders...

And not only that, it wasn't even the NDP who slid us into this aggressive US-led combat role since 2005 and after the Liberals insisted that there be no Parliamentary debate on the matter and to protests of the NDP. So the Harpers are in good company with the very undemocratic Liberals by their side in Ottawa. If the Harpers are slpperier'n greased pigs in muck, then the Liberals are slimey pond scum who nodded up and down in rapid agreement to crazy George's warmongering agenda in Afghanistan. In 2005, it was the Liberals who said to Uncle Sam, "Can do, aye-aye, at your service on the double-double!" Because when Uncle Sam says to jump, Canada's old line party stooges' only question is to ask how high? The Shawinigan Strangler and Paulie Pockets, Harper and Iggy, Harper's redundant stooge-alike, should all go jump head-first into the Rideau this Janvier and blow some stink off.

Fidel, why does Layton write these crocodile-tear puff pieces every time some Canadian soldier (never an Afghan civilian) gets blown up?

Why do they read exactly the same as Ignatieff's? Or Harper's?

Why doesn't he say, "this is one more reason why we should have withdrawn yesterday?"

I'll tell you why. Because he's a coward; he listens only to his spin doctors; he has contempt for the NDP convention resolution; he has contempt for the wishes of the majority of Canadians to end the invasion and occupation now; and he's Jack Layton and he's running for the job of Prime Minister.

Now, admittedly, that's only one possible explanation. There are others. I imagine.

These posts sound better placed in the Canada and Afghanistan thread or Afghanistan will win thread.

Because they are ordinary Canadians who've died for crazy George and Zbigniew Brzezinki's VietNam re-do in Central Asia? Our Can-America warmongers are a waste of good space.

In fact, the NDP turned against this US-led misadventure in 2005 when the Liberals dragged Canada into crazy George's quagmire in Afghanistan.

The only cowards in all of this have been the Liberals propping up the other wing of Canada's pro-America bipartisan war party. And Steve Harper is a coward. The Harpers are showing their true political nature with avoiding democratic scrutiny of Parliament altogether until some time in March. The mask is slipping off for Canada's political Conservatives and fangs now bared for all to see.

Nor the websites of any of "our" political parties.

The NDP has been somewhat busy lambasting our 22 percent stooges for the torture scandal in Afghanistan. Or at least, the NDP was busy being the effective opposition in Canada's Parliament until the Harpers ran themselves outa Dodge on a rail at high noon. Cowards that they are.

On this, I agree with you. Olympics, torture scandal, Downtown Eastside - big potholes for ole Harpy. So the canadians just take the easy way out and just put Parliament to sleep for a while hoping the citizens will also go to sleep, or maybe go to Florida for a couple of weeks.

Come March. Hit the reset button and you have a new start. All is well and weren't the Olympics great? And didn't canada just do great? etc. etc. etc.

I wonder what sort of speech is being crafted (I use the term loosely), or maybe crapted in the PMO's library right now about what sorts of things need to be accomplished in the few short weeks parliamentarians have left until the summer break.

This soldier died fighting the system

Quote:
Dawson Bayliss died in his sleep on Nov. 23, 2009, lying alongside his pregnant wife in their Calgary home. "I heard him gasping for air," recalls Naomi Bayliss, eyes moistening. "That's what woke me up. His whole body was convulsing. His fists were balled up and his eyes were rolling back. I tried shaking him but he was totally unresponsive."
