Voting Green is voting strategically. Considering the deep structural ecological, social and democratic deficits in Canada, we as voters need to start thinking long term, as in 2-3 elections /10 years+ ahead. Consider the impact of the Greens landing ~10-12% of the vote in this election and electing 1-2 members of the House. What about next election up to 15-20% and a good-sized caucus of MPs? Not only would the agenda shift but having solid ecological and social research expressed in the House of Commons and disseminated throughout mass Canadian media over the next 5 years could really help change Canada and shift our political society back towards pragmatic, reasoned debate, with actual commitments made to our environmental legacy, which is not being forwarded at all by the current configuration of vested interests in Parliament. A strategic vote is to increase the Green vote election by election. Maybe if you can unseat a Conservative for a Liberal or NDP, go for it, but only if that Liberal or NDP is a true progressive and responsive to local needs.
