CANADIANS DON’T HAVE THE FACTS!
So I am not considering Polls as indicative of what is good for our country!

I am in agreement with the article that Murray Dobbin has written and wish to add my own thoughts. Let's remember that 62% of Canadians did not vote for Harper.

The far reaching social, environmental and economic impact of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s recent negotiations with the USA are unknown to Canadians.  Actually, even Federal Trade Minister Peter Van Loan, himself, has said that ‘anybody who pretends to know (the outcome) is pretending to know the impossible.’

I now urgently request that no further proceedings go forward until the Municipal, Provincial and Federal government undertake a public inquiry as to how this will change our country.

I vision that this is going to lead to privatization of our resources and our services.  What else can happen with what we are giving up?

Let’s just get this out in the open and see if we can reverse the snowball effect of this agreement.  The most devastating commitment, in my opinion, involves the section that allows the World Trade Organization free reign at all government levels.  It is my very humble opinion that our government is giving away our power to rule over such things as our hospitals, water and hydro, social programs, postal service and all of our natural resources.

Good heavens, are we really so busy with the gigantic seven billion dollar Olympic party that we aren’t even going to notice our country and our sovereignty being given away!  Canadians just don’t have all the facts.  Below is an expert from the Toronto Star;

The Toronto Star editorial board writes that, “The ‘Buy America’ deal between Ottawa and Washington is either ‘a very, very important step forward’ (Prime Minister Stephen Harper), or ‘a bad deal’ (Maude Barlow, chairperson of the Council of Canadians)…”

“Behind these statements are more than just differences of opinion based on the same information. The various governments championing the deal and the interest groups opposed to it cannot even agree on the facts.”

“On the Star’s opinion page, Scott Sinclair of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives wrote that ‘Canadian businesses will get to compete for no more than $4 billion to $5 billion (U.S.) worth of projects,’ whereas American suppliers will have access to $25 billion (Canadian) in procurement on this side of the border.”

“Federal Trade Minister Peter Van Loan says such figures are ‘highly speculative.’ He believes the deal is balanced but there are so many potential contracts and sub-contracts involved that ‘anybody who pretends to know (the outcome) is pretending to know the impossible.’ Maybe so. But the principles involved in this deal are too important and the long-range implications too enormous to accept governmental assurances at face value.”

The Toronto Star, the largest circulation newspaper in the country, concludes, “The deal ought to be the subject of public hearings, in both Parliament and the provincial legislatures.”

Until we have a Fair Voting system we will be likely to have a Prime Minister that most of us do not want to see leading our country.  Let's get legislation through to bring our outdated voting system in line with our needs.  The site Fair Vote on the internet offers a place to learn more about this.  Regarding this recent "Deal" of Harper's I urge you to write to your MLA today!  It’s not too late to stand up for our country.
