babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
I would think the prescence of FN drivers would not necessarily indicate it was FN owned nor would the lack of FN drivers indicate it wasn't.
True.
It's been a few years since I lived in Winnipeg. At the time the majority of the drivers were FN and Metis. I knew one of the drivers personally and he was one of the people that told me about Spring Taxi being FN owned. It was their goal to employ as many FN drivers as possible.
That may have changed by now though, or it may not have. It could have been sold.
I am not sure about Spring Taxi as far as ownership goes but when I worked on Main Street, between Logan and Higgins, if I called them for a taxi they showed up unlike other cab companies. They are the only company I call now.
First of all, just to clear things up, Spring Taxi is EAST INDIAN OWNED! Tejpal Atwall. Sound native? I don't think so. And, furthermore, I drive for Spring Taxi. We have mostly awesome drivers and we DO ask for cash up front. The TAXICAB ACT says drivers have the right to ask for the fare in advance. It says this on EVERY taxi's window in Winnipeg. Taxi drivers also have the right to refuse a fare if they are too intoxicated or pose a threat (as perceived by the driver). On several occasions I have had to have the police remove a customer who passed out cold in the cab. Waste of my time and time is money.
I'm no longer in Winnipeg. Is lonewolfbunn right about Spring Taxi? (i.e., is it FN-owned? )
No idea, but I don't see FNs driving their vans (they mostly have mini vans not cars).

Be nice to know tho

Here is a clip interviewing Chris Garner a few years before the movie Pursuit of Happyness about trying to get a cab
