babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
Over here in this thread Cathcfire says this at post #58:
Quote:
George, you seem incapable of resisting personal attacks of babblers who criticize, however lightly, the NDP. You've been warned again and again, and there was also a general warning in this thread, which you ignored. I'm giving you three days off.
Now I was quite astounded to read that, as I had just finished reading the whole thread and only saw 1 comment by George at post # 19 which said this:
Quote:
I believe the Cons held on to the legislation until the last minute so that an NDP attempt to sort it out would result in the legislation not being passed leaving the Cons to say the NDP let Homolka get away with it... I refuse to believe that in anything Steve does there is not exhaustive political forethought.
which in no way can be viewed to be an attack upon anyone.
But yet we have a mod 30 posts and 2 days later banning him for 3 days.
Now, what I want to know is; was the mod mis-posting in this thread and meant another thread, or for some reason is said mod gunning for George?
I thought the mod was referring to post #56 by George.
But if I'm right, I think a three day suspension is pretty harsh for what he said there. NDP supporters put up with a hell of a lot more than that without posters getting suspended.
no i did not miss post 56, as cue's post is # 56 in that thread and what the hell happened to my 2nd post here, as apparently it had to be here at one time, or lou would not have known what i was talking about?
So......again I ask why was george banned for a personal attack in the thread linked to above, when he did not make an attacking post in that thread, that I read, or found?
His sole post was #19.
Is someone gunning for george, or was there a mis-post by said mod that shoulda been on another thread?
Ok, I think I get what happened here. When a post is flagged, it shows up in a queue that we mods can look at. There are a number of options, all but one will screw things up. I think Catchfire might be using the wrong button and making posts disappear from the thread rather than just clearing the queue which is his intent. There definitely was a post of George's which accounts for this. I think I can fix it.
I made the same mistake myself when the new system started. It is neither a user friendly nor very intuitive system.
What adds to the confusion BTW, is that as a mod, I can still see the posts in thier original place. I'd have to log in in my sockpuppet account to see if it was gone and back. So, could remind or someone tell me if her missing post in this thread is back?
remind... after having lost several posts myself (and always the long ones that a good deal of effort has been put into, or so it seems) I have started making a Notepad (.txt) copy just in case. The times it has happened to me, the threads have already been quite long and some unnamed moderator (HE knows who HE is) has had the bad timing (my interpretation, HE may consider it fortuitous) to lock them down while I am still in composition mode. Glitches still happen, and when it is more than a "throw-away" line you are posting, might be worth the extra effort to make a .txt copy (all you have to do is copy and paste). Of course maybe you don't toss in "throw-away" lines... if not, I suggest you look into it, it can be a lot of fun.
I wish I had a nickel for every time Michelle did that to me. I'd have several nickels, I would! I can reopen, but the post is still gone. If I'm making a rare long post, I'll often do it on a word programme.
Oh goatish one, not only that, but you can inflict the "post that never was" on the offending moderator by sending it to them in pvt. This is a particularly suitable punishment for their having cut you off from the thread itself.
Saint that I am, I would reopen the forum for you. I know that any post of yours bagkitty, in which you placed such an effort, deserves to see the light of day.
thanks bagkitty for the advice, I stopped losing my posts all the time in long threads by starting a new one when needed, and I just wish the mods would get on closing the old ones when I do...... ;) :P
or give me the ability to just close threads that are too long, after I start a new one :D
Oh hi! It was indeed George's post #56 in that thread, in which he said the following, in reference to Slumberjack:
George Victor wrote:
And if appeals to reason and fairness move neither the perpetrator or the controllers of opinion hereabouts - in fact snotty little jibes like the above are routinely ignored by them - what chance for life outside the tormented little self-destructive world of "left" opinion?
Of course, this is not enough in itself to justify a suspension. But George has been warned repeatedly about these kinds of niggling comments, usually in high passive-aggressive mode, about other posters criticizing the NDP (and not its supporters). His refusal to stop such personal attacks, however minor, led to a brief suspension. To use FIFA rules, he was carded for persistent fouls.
With regards to the disappearing posts, I don't know what happened. I've restored George's posts, but I actually didn't touch the moderation queue, because I wanted to leave the evidence for the other mods to see. I know about the software glitch and to my knowledge, I avoided it. I don't know who stepped in and cleared the queue! Suffice it to say, we'll look into it!
ETA: There were a number of posts that were unpublished in that thread, all of which but George's weren't flagged as offensive. And then of course there's remind's post in this thread, which I haven't see until now! It's a mystery, make no mistake.
That's wierd Catchfire, because I noticed a bunch of posts had ended up in the 'removed' file. Hence my email. Restoring them is easily done by hitting the 'allow' thingy, but we may want to contact the support elves.

Working my corner, Remind?

Edited to add: LOL at Caissa
hmmmmm i made a whole long post that did not show up
huh, but then if it did not show up, how did lou know what I was talking about? and i missed post 56#.
The post was there earlier since I read it.
Thats weird remind. I saw your long post and just came back to this thread when I saw you made another post after lou arab. And its gone now
no i did not miss post 56, as cue's post is # 56 in that thread and what the hell happened to my 2nd post here, as apparently it had to be here at one time, or lou would not have known what i was talking about?

gunning for george sounds like a post 9/11 saga.

okay, thank you old goat.....but why would Cathfire be clearing MY post above, as I can see that for george's post if flagged?
or did someone flag my post too?
and we still do not know what the missing post at #56 said, do we?
Saint that I am, I would reopen the forum for you. I know that any post of yours bagkitty, in which you placed such an effort, deserves to see the light of day.
Check you paypal account my goatish friend, check you paypal account.

Hee Hee!
Actually, yes remind, but they were being a smartass and it was done in jest.
Catchfire must be around. I've emailed him and he can sort it out.
hmmmmmph......
indeed
CAMPING!
!!!
Damn well better not be out at Darlington, my daughter's camping there for the weekend.
Ah wtf, she can beat the crap out of you anyway.

The double standard displayed by this action is breath-taking.
Thank you.....OG and Catchfire for your clearing it all up and your responses...
will leave the fairness, or not, out of the equation.
