Can I continue my role as the thread contrarian and declare the refs as the final vestige of humanness left in the game when it is experienced on this level.  When all else has been reduced to engineered mechanical technique and fine oiled text book strategy to ref the game through analyized slow motion reply would be the final death blow.

Of course that view point assumes the athletes have/will not reach(ed) a more evloved spiritual state. One where their own needs become subservient to those of others.  The thrilling freedom of the wind waving through the flag as a group of friends release those difficult to uncage primal screams fullfilling the desire to outperfom the car horn in billions of people around the world is far more important than the experience of those few actually playing the game.
