"We Need Allies Like Canada" - Israel's Avigdor Lieberman
"Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Sweden, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Sunday accused another Scandinavian country - Norway this time - of promoting anti-semitism. Israel and Sweden have been embroiled in diplomatic crisis this week after a Swedish daily printed an article alleging that IDF soldiers harvested organs of Palestinians.."
"Anyway, beyond the value this brouhaha has for Lieberman personally, there's also some poisoning of the well--Sweden just took over the EU Presidency, and is expected to take an activist position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. So we'll be hearing a lot about how Sweden's government is rife with anti-Semitism.."
Baseless Organ Theft Accusations will not bring Israel to Justice
"Israel's tactics of intimidation are not justified by Bostrom's article which is nothing more than an example of irresponsible journalism and publishing. If Sweden does bow down to Israeli pressure, it would set a frightening precedent.."
"How low can you go?" Lieberman queried his audience of school children who, had they been following the explosive and sudden breakdown in relations between Israel and Stockholm this week, would have answered: as low as Sweden, of course.
And that would be because Sweden produced Donald Boström, a freelancer who recently published a provocative but back-pages article in the daily Aftonbladet tabloid that quoted allegations soldiers had removed organs from Palestinian corpses nearly two decades ago.
Astonishing was that Lieberman, hitting back at the article that supposedly defamed his country, opted not to attack the story or its author but to defame the entire nation of Sweden, and all for its refusal to follow the foreign minister off a cliff of international humiliation.
"It is a shame that the Swedish Foreign Ministry is not getting involved when a blood libel against Jews is at hand," he said in a statement emailed to every journalist working in Israel. "This recalls the Swedish position during World War II – then, too, they didn't get involved."
While the article in question, which has yet to be taken seriously by anyone outside of Benjamin Netanyahu's government, could easily be interpreted as defamatory to Israel's military, Lieberman's reaction to its accusations could not be interpreted as anything less than an attack on Sweden, in general, as a nation of Nazis yesterday and cowards today.
"This reflects the growing importance of Canada by Israel and the excellent partnership between the Canadian Jewish Community and the State of Israel...as well as being a response to the emerging position of Toronto as a global focal point for both pro and anti-Israel activity.."
"this silence bolsters claims by some commentators that under Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservative government, Canada has become (at least diplomatically) the most pro-Israel country in the world. Israeli officials concur.."
"Less than a week after Ankara cancelled an air exercise with Israel, Turkey's State sponsored Channel TRT1 broadcast 'Ayrilik' (Farewell") a new prime time TV show that depicts the true image of Israel's genocidal military operation iin Gaza last January.
The Israelis are not happy.
The Turkish TV-show indeed depicts the IDF soldiers as murderers of children women and elders, for this is what Israeli soldiers are and this is exactly what Israel stands for politically, symbolically, ideologically and practically..."
Only goes to further underscore the nastiness of the Canadian position vis a vis this awful war criminal and the high praise he has for ALL PARTIES here.
"The Teflon cloak Israel has tried to wrap itself in since Operation Cast Lead, the invasion of Canada in December 2008, looks as strong as ever in Canada. 'Canada is so friendly that there was no need to convince or explain anything to anyone. We need allies like this in the international arena,' gushed Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman. But all is not well in the Land of Nod..."
"Britain's Foreign Minister David Miliband yesterday apologized to MK Tzipi Livni and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman for the court warrant issued against Livni in London earlier this week.."
"One of the ways Canada is intimately linked to war crimes is through the international arms trade and Gaza provides us with a jarring case in point..."
The Impunity of Israel and its Allies Will Carry a Price
"When evidence of war crimes is produced, you might expect states that claim to defend the rule of law to want those crimes investigated and the perpetrators held to account. Not a bit of it....As has been demonstrated this week, Israel is treated with impunity by its western allies..."
Wow - that article from the Star has got my blood boiling - quoting Jason Kenny...
Quote:
"We have de-funded organizations, most recently, like KAIROS who are taking a leadership role in the boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign" against Israel, he told the Global Forum for combatting anti-Semitism.
WTF is Jason Kenny, Minister of Immigration, doing in Israel giving a talk on combatting anti-semitism? He is not Jewish and he is certainly no expert in the matter of anti semitism.
But his words and deeds certainly certainly reflect an anti-christian bias. I hope he is surprised and shocked that his shameful words have been reported in the Canadian media. What a jerk.
Quote:
Alykhan Velshi, Kenney's director of communications, said the minister's words "speak for themselves."
The federal Conservatives have taken steps to "disentangle" the government from groups that are anti-Semitic or anti-Israel, he said.
Yes, the words do speak for themselves, don't they? Don't say anything against Israel because that is being anti-semetic. What utter bullshit.
So whats the solution? Establish a warm relationship with Palestinian racists and fascists to counter the warm relationship with Israeli racists and fascists?
Sama old, same old. Most Canadians have no interest in the to-ing and fro-ing of political opportunists who have absolutely no interest in a permanent solution.
I would think that most Canadians want a government that they can trust. This one cannot be trusted at all, as they keep proving over and over again. Framed in that context, it's one step to disloging this facist regime.
Maybe not a complete solution, but a small step in that direction.
I would venture to say that most Canadians don't give a shit about Israel. Maybe its time to ask why is our government so obsessed defending this apartheid/terrorist/war criminal state on the other side of the world. Why, why, why?
It makes for an interesting debate and it could make for a very interesting election.
Fascist is a little extreme for the Conservative government. Fascists-in-waiting is the correct term. Without a majority, Harper has all these pesky laws and such impeding him. He can't suspend the constitution for our own benefit just yet, the best he can do is impede the flow of information and stonewall any criticism.
"An Iranian attack on Israel would be considered an attack on Canada, according to Peter Kent, Canada's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs...
Canada has been one of Israel's staunchest allies, and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper last week called for a coordinated international effort to halt "the grave danger" of Iran's pursuit of nuclear capability."
“Prime Minister Harper has made it quite clear for some time now and has regularly stated that an attack on Israel would be considered an attack on Canada,” said Kent.
That is the language of automatic military defence of the expansionist state of Israel. If taken literally (and it is phrase that has a history of being meant literally) it means that the Canadian military will respond as if someone launched a military attack on Ontario. Outrageous.
Gone from the Canadian Israel-lobbyists quiver is the sly innuendo that concerned Canadian's are "obsessed" with Israel's crimes. These are now crimes the Canadian Government promises to defend by force.
Additionally, if quoted correctly, there appears to be an outright falsehood in Kent's speech:
Quote:
He told Shalomlife.com, “Canada has been concerned for some time... about the nuclear adventurism and the proclaimed quest of nuclear weaponry by President [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad.”
Nowhere have I found a "quest of nuclear weaponry" "proclaimed" by Ahmadinejad.
Kady O'Malley on the CBC site is also looking for clarification on this statement by Kent:
Quote:
“Prime Minister Harper has made it quite clear for some time now and has regularly stated that an attack on Israel would be considered an attack on Canada,”
Kady O'Malley:
Quote:
Whether or not Harper has done so at the cabinet table is one thing, but a quick search of the PM's past statements on Israel seems to that the PM has not, in fact, "regularly stated" any such thing -- not in public, at least. (What he may or may not say at the cabinet table is, of course, confidential.)But if we take Kent at his word, and assume that this country -- or, at least, the government -- does, in fact, now view an attack on Israel as an attack on Canada, it still raises a host of questions; the first of which would be something along the lines of, exactly what international law or existing treaty might this new-to-the-rest-of-us position based on? What is Canada committing itself to do in the event of an attack -- and for that, matter, how, in this context, is "attack" being defined?
Indications are that Israel is already 'covered' by NATO - moreover these 'signals' from Ottawa increase the liklihood that preparations for a possible move against Iran are indeed underway:
"Extending article 5 protection, hitherto limited to full member states, to Israel was being advocated with the inescapable implication that a coalition of most of the world's most powerful military nations led by the self-designated world's sole military superpower, would retaliate against Iran if it responded to an Israeli first strike attack.."
"This after all, is the woman who once warned that if she were president and Iran attacked Israel, the United States would 'totally obliterate' Iran.."
I find the widespread obliviousness to these scenarios most alarming...
"Canadian military officials have undertaken a comprehensive effort with their Israeli counterparts to 'pursue deeper relationships' to borrow from Israel's weapons, war training and counter insurgency strategies, and to strengthen diplomatic ties, according to documents obtained through access to information (ATI) requests.."
"The Israeli occupation army, which is proudly called the Israeli Defense Forces, is indeed the people's army. Well it is also a sick and psychotic people's army, an army without morality, without honor, and without basic human decency..."
Indications are that Israel is already 'covered' by NATO - moreover these 'signals' from Ottawa increase the liklihood that preparations for a possible move against Iran are indeed underway:
So hypothetically, if the IDF attacked a ship from a NATO country, say, Turkey, in international waters...
"On the eve of discussions, Kent stated, 'As vibrant democratic states, Canada and Israel are natural allies. This affinity, based on our shared values such as respect for human rights and the rule of law, extends to our respective engagement in the Americas.'
