ethnic identities. The vigil is scheduled as an alternate voice to a nearby rally supporting the English Defence League (EDL), a British right-wing group responsible for a wave of violent anti-Islamic/anti-Muslim street protests in the United Kingdom since 2009.

The EDL support rally, believed to be the first in Canada, is being organized by the Jewish Defence League (JDL) of Canada at the Toronto Zionist Centre, 788 Marlee Ave.

Come and give your public support to those targeted by such violent activities. Organizers particularly encourage women to attend, and expect that anyone joining the peaceful candlelight vigil enter into the space from a place of grounded calm. At no time will we resort to any form of violence even if provoked. Others standing in solidarity might be in more vulnerable
positions and could be adversely affected by expressions of anger.
