So it's my second babble birthday.  I'm serving the house special - vodka, sparkling water, and fresh squeezed pomegranate - with kuba (rice balls filled with beef, almonds, raisins, and spices).  At a progressive party, someone else serves the second course.  Anyone?

Woohoo! The fun kind of party!

Thanks for this thread, Ripple and happy 2nd birthday to you.

My party-food repertoire is mostly in the sweets arena, which might not be what people want as a second course.

But I will put my platter of assorted homemade mini-cheesecakes on the side of the table. Chocolate cookie crumb crust, baked cream cheese filling with an assorted combination of chocolate chips, bailey's or fresh fruit on top. Or just plain.

This is Pink Pantheist, wife of 1springgarden. I'm the cook in this house and he asked me to chime in. I'll serve a roasted squash salad with dried cranberries over mesclun. I served this at a dinner party and it was a hit. The recipe is from Chatelaine magazine. I'm into shrimp, too, HUGE time; but hubby is allergic. So I would LOVE a shrimp dish at someone else's house.

Should I bring the plain potato chips, or the ripple chips?

Pink Pantheist, it would be great if you would make an account and post too!  Welcome!  (And not least because of that delicious menu you just served...)

Happy second anniversary/babble birthday, Ripple!  This place is better because you're here.

What shall I serve?  Well, I can fall back on the family recipe, even though someone else has already served beef.  Roladen (beef rolls) spiced with a ton of paprika and dijon, and baked in carmelized onions and mushrooms) with rich gravy, poured over potato dumplings.  Served with red cabbage which has been reduced over heat with wine and apples for sweetness and nutmeg.

Maysie, those look great! Glad you could make it!

Boom Boom ... Perfect! I was hoping you'd drop by to spin some tunes.

Welcome, Pink Pantheist.  Wow.  That looks delicious.  I'll definitely be making that again. Thanks for coming, and you, too, 1springgarden.

David - ripple, of course.  Holds the dip better.  (You did bring dip, didn't you?)

Michelle, glad you're here! (Is radiorahim coming, or is he home making things free as in freedom?)  I've been looking forward to the roladen and red cabbage since seeing it in a recipe thread some time back.  I kept hoping you'd show up in Canada Apple's thread where we got to say nice things about each other, because I have a bunch of things to say about you.

I'll just bring some homemade beer (and cider, of course, for those so inclined--Michelle and Maysie, I am looking in your direction). I have some IPA and Kolsch somewhere...

Thanks, epaulo13.  Good to see you.  No school for my kids tomorrow, so I've got the day off, too.  Pick up some perogies, would you?

Mmmm, perogies.  Sounds good!  I haven't had those in a while.

Yes, Ripple, he might show up.  Although I'm sure he will insist that our recipes conform to the four essential freedoms: the freedom to cook the recipe for any reason, the freedom to study how the recipe works so you can change it to suit your purposes for any reason, the freedom to redistribute copies of the recipe so you can help your neighbour, and the freedom to distribute your own versions. ;)

Hi All:

Wish I could really, truly be there! It would be fun to cook all these recipes and report back. I am just enough of an obsessed foodie to do that. And I am now officially signed in with my own account! I may wander over to the intros section and chime in.

I can bring homemade bread, too. I mill my own flour.

Have any of you done an IRL progressive dinner? How did it turn out? Did you bring your kids?

Oh and I REALLY want to learn to make a good perogie. That and those little gnocchi. Mine turn our like rocks.

Welcome, pinkpantheist! Milling your own flour! Sounds like you're already too sophistcated for this place (except for Ripple, of course, who is as urbane and genteel as they come).

I think we need some more tunes, though.

Since I'm losing weight, I'll bring the raw veggies.

I'll bring the Murgh Mughlai. I know, the spices are boringly mild, but for a party of guests with varying tastes it's as safe as butter chicken, and a lot creamier. Should go well with the beer and cider.

Say, I just listened to that this morning!

The Walmart I manage has a McDonalds in the back.  I'll just bring along a bunch of those fruit pie thingies.

KIDDING! KIDDING!!

Happy birthday Ripple, and welcome pinkpantheist.  Things seem to be pretty much covered, so I'm just bringing my old Woodstock album, maybe some Jefferson Airplane, and some of my buddy's primo home-grown.  I hope you have a turntable.

You make me sound so ... bougie, Catchfire!

RP!!! Now it's a party!  Any Dance Dance Revolution in your bag?  Caissa can work off the hummus I've made to go with the veggies.

Never had it, Wilf. It smells great.

Come in, autoworker.  Let me get a water bowl - what's your dog's name?

Oh, I've got a turntable, oldgoat.  Caissa may have brought some vinyl, too.

Hi, laine lowe!  Butterscotch Ripple.  That'll be great with oldgoat's friend's homegrown.

I hope some of the newer babblers can make it.  It's an open house.

(pssst ... Maysie ... Over here ... Hey, thanks for being the first guest.  You've totally made this party!)

That lovely stuff above should be placed on the side-board (buffet) cabinet, somehow fenced off under lock, lest folks be tempted before finishing the main savory courses.
