babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
...and Topp just went to congratulate Mulcair personally on stage, raising their hands together (nice photo op for the media to prove the unity of the party), as did Broadbent. Very good.
I have this horrifying image in my head of Brian flipping Tom and bird before walking off stage, I hope I'm wrong.
Not a chance. With 40% support, they need each other. I see Mulcair publicly inviting Brian to get into the house. Maybe Sana Hassainia would be happier with a 9 to 5 job. Her riding is where Topp grew up.
Yeah, don't bet on it. Verchères-Les-Patriotes is naturally Bloc territory. The NDP won by only 7 points in 2011, when they led the Bloc by 20 points globally in Québec. The Bloc has increased its support since 2011, and the NDP has fallen a bit. Don't bet too much money on Verchères staying Orange in the next election.
If they try a byelection to get Brian Topp in, all it would result in is a new Bloc MP. Ideally, they should have held the leadership race earlier on and Brian might have had a shot in Toronto-Danforth, which would have been appropriate as he was very close to Jack for all his time as MP. Too late for that now.
Why wouldn't he? Only someone delusional would believe that he would flip him the bird or somethi-
I'm not delusional...much or at least that's what my pet Purple Dragon keeps telling, but maybe I shouldn't listen him, he keeps telling me to go to the wrong polling station ;D

Save that picture - it may be the last time you see Topp or Broadbent (or LIbby Davies) anywhere near a position of power in the party for a long time

Please don't presume of a fracture in the party before even having the facts. That's playing the game of the Lib-Con spin doctors, who have jumped on every sentence to create the impression of nasty infighting. I think much of it is illusory, based on out of context quotes. There was some disagreement, but that happens in every leadership race.
Don't help break the party by falling for their ploy. And that is valid for everyone who said that Topp had no class or was horrible in the past few days or weeks. You've been had, time for you to acknowledge it and stop playing the game they want us to play.
Well, that was a completely boring and poorly-delivered speech. Yawwwwn. If that was how he performed on Friday, then no wonder Ed said he bombed. He certainly did just now.
I'm surprised - he was way better during the debates.
that is a very uninspired and boring victory speech...Definitely not a Layton or Obama...oh well. Harper is boring too. I guess boring can make someone a winner. Ed broadbent looks pissed off! I am not impressed.
Yeah it was Michelle, and that is all they are harping on CBC about. I don't think anyone will care after tomorrow. Once he starts punishing harper during question period and it ACTUALLY makes the news, it will be more important than some silly pos election speach.
Chantal Hebert says he needs a new speechwriter and that he needs to stop reading his speeches. No kidding! (Edited to add: although I agree with Lou below that the speech wasn't so bad - it was the delivery.)
But she's remembering Kim Campbell's victory speech and I didn't realize that she had called Charest names in hers. That's hilarious!
Edited to add: another commenter says that it was like he was narrating a wildlife documentary. Ha!
I was struck by how badly he actually interacts with the audience and how fearful he seems to be of going off script. That's what made Olivia's performance last night so energizing.
Honestly - Sarah Palin was better at working the crowd at the 2008 Repug convention.
To be fair, he's probably exhausted. But you'd think he could muster a little more excitement. Unless he just suddenly realized that he's about to be the subject of about 5 Conservative attack ads in the next week or so...

"Thank you, you fools! I now declare you Liberals!" (rips off jacket to reveal red t-shirt beneath)
awesome
Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Nope, Topp should not be involved with the federal party. Avoid that media drama show completely.
Wow, this guy really has very little gift for oratory. This isn't a laundry list - it's your acceptance speech for God's sake!
He probably could have memorized at least some of the speech, you would think. At least get it on a teleprompter or something!
Catchfire: haha!
Why would Davies be removed from any position of power?
Layton put her as deputy, and she must stay there. I have faith in Layton's judgement.
Hey Tom- my eyes are up here!
If anything horrifically goes wrong by 2015, I get to declare that the blame is off me. Woot.
But he'll do well. I liked that his speech was to the point. Commentators are ripping him up now.

Pat Martin sounds kinda deflated on CBC right now.

Layton's not running the party anymore - it's a new era for the NDP and people who can't get used to it are going to get left behind
Who cares about Pat Martin. Whatever-
Yeah it was Michelle, and that is all they are harping on CBC about. I don't think anyone will care after tomorrow. Once he starts punishing harper during question period and it ACTUALLY makes the news, it will be more important than some silly pos election speach.
or the NDP is going to be left behind..:roll my eyes:
You can laugh. But they invited everyone to go celebrate with a drink at the Sheraton Centre.
Get it?
They're moving the Party to the Centre!
Only conservatives leave people behind.

Unionist: GROAN. :D
What if a majority of Canadians like wildlife documentaries? What if?!

It was a tiring night, let's give him the benefit of the doubt that he will give better speeches later on.
You'd better hope they do, dacckon. ;)
