babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
It will never be a straight left right fight. Look back to the collapse of Social Credit. There is far too much structure for it to just disappear, it is guaranteed to run a relatively strong slate. A lot of federal Liberals who would never run for the Conservatives. People like Linda Reid in Richmond East who won the riding back with the Gordon Wilson wave 20 years ago. She is not going to be beat by John Cummins - he would be better off running in Steveston and looking for the retired fisher vote and a far weaker Liberal.
I hope Adrian is dancing a private little jig at home these nites - he deserves it.
not to pull the rug out, but breaking into spontaneous, celebratory dance would first require (one would hope) that one feels personally deserving to do so... without that, any celebration might be felt to be premature, and would, therefore, if anything, be rather tentative - spontaneity itself might be impossible, too, depending... maybe he can allow himself a little soft-shoe - but with just one left foot...
cuz actually? I have heard - from a fairly authoritative source (Michael Byers, on Bill Good's BAD talk show, a week or so ago) that Adrian apparently hasn't been feeling all that joyous...
according to Byers, Adrian expressed a very real concern that his ticketless Sky Train 'bust' did, in fact, hurt him politically.... the 'bust' itself was no real 'biggy' - after all, when news of it did hit the ol' media fan, he did offer a plausible-enough explanation as to why he was riding without a ticket - fine - but, what had him rattled - perhaps unjustifiably - probably quite out of proportion - are the optics involved: they're quite ugly, esp. to this electorate! Why? because that incident happened months before it actually did hit the fan
and Adrian had just been sitting on it... again, for months... hoping - I guess - that it'd just go away - but, it didn't, of course...
I'm sure he realizes now that he should have pro-actively copped to it, hours - if not minutes - after the fact! and laughed it off, heartily, casually, too
but he didn't, and, eventually, somebody 'leaked' it to the media - months later - which elicited that detectable little waver in his voice (also mentioned earlier in this thread).
so what, were they (the leaker) giving Adrian ample opportunity to cough it up by himself? Or (call me paranoid) were they (that 'leaker' again) - or the media - or the premier's office!(whomever knew about it) slyly hanging on to it? for as long as they possibly could? - months, as it turns out - simply to put enough distance (months!) between the incident and it's release to the public, to have Adrian's lengthy silence on the matter make him appear 'sneaky'?
(okay, I'm paranoid, but why would somebody hang on to that knowledge, for that long?) who knows... but it certainly could be seen as 'sneaky'! of him, to stay mum on such a minor infraction.... but the good lord knows it's THAT kind of 'sneakiness' that definitely could, at this point in the political history of the province, tend to piss off more than a few 'swing voters'.... I mean, what if Adrian has something major happen? what, he's gonna be ultra-transparent about that?
If Byers is right (and I don't have any reason to doubt him at all) Adrian is genuinely concerned about the negative perception raised in people's minds over that - not to suggest that, rather than 'a little jig', he should be doing the St. Vitus' hop - not even close....
numbers-wise, he's a shoe-in! of course, but should be watching his step! trying to avoid any fancy footwork! and polishing that image! - with vigor!
that goes for the whole chorus line, obviously.... they can do the bossa nova, later, en masse, in public

Christy's got a week to go before the 2 by-elections but already her MLAs are calling for a new party to merge the right wing. She can run but she won't be able to hide after the 2 by-election results. I expect she'll be steping down soon as this is getting outright embarassing. Families first, eh Christy! What the heck is going on in Canada? It's as if someone has lit a fire under the Canadian electorate and a lot of them are realizing we are selling out our future with these right-wing yahoos.
Liberals mull centre-right union as NDP cements lead
NP, you don't a lib leader so they need to ease up on her - she's perfect going into the next election, and a new merged right-wing party - geez I thought that was what the BC liberal party was. Maybe they will call it the British Columbia Party or something as original
by-elections i had forgot and was just this morning wondering why Global TV was all out attacking Christie Clark. I'd've thought they would'nt be so out there in support of the BC Conservatives.
No more pathetic than the fact that the NDP's "star" candidate used to be considered Cristy Clark's main ally in Tri-City politics. He will make a wonderful small "l" liberal cabinet minister in the NDP government. Better than the BC Liberals of course but it seems just a little too opportunistic to run a center right Mayor when the party is riding high in the polls and the election is in a riding they should easily take in a by-election.
Greatness requites some risk of failure otherwise you end up with mediocre government. They could have run a progressive candidate in that riding and while there was some risk they could lose it would mean that if and when they won they would had a mandate for real change not a vote of confidence in a centrist liberal politician.
by-elections i had forgot and was just this morning wondering why Global TV was all out attacking Christie Clark. I'd have thought they wouldn't be so out there in support of the BC Conservatives.
It is obvious that in the background the BC Liberal's Howe Street masters are switching horse. The MSM propaganda regime is always on their side. The same 1% who run Howe street did the same thing with the Socred's. Don't worry though they are very sophisticated and Cummins will not be leading them into the 2017 election but a new "progressive" face like Gordon Campbell was will run on reforming the government.
Their polls told them that he would win in 2009 and they were right. Now that the polls say they will tank in 2013 they are working hard to ensure that after the Liberals are gone that there is a "new" party ready to carry the corporate flag. They will then spend four years on a capital strike and the MSM like Global and BCTV will spend four years vilifying everything the NDP government does. The only question for me is who will take over Falcon's role. You know when Howe Street funded his "citizens" group to mount a never ending third party campaign against the unholy socialists.
I remember my mom was yelling about Howe St a few years back and if they got control of BC 'crimes of poverty' were going to skyrock and end up costing individuals and business more than income support policies. i just rolled my eyes.
it became a fact to me last night when i saw the report on people's missing front gates. 'cause when you combine that with the stealing of metals from businesses and construction sites you gotta know it is a "crime of need".
i think she said something like "the extra 40cents (not sure if it was exactly that but close to it) it would cost individuals on their taxes to fund income assist programs instead of their demanding cuts is going to come back and bit e1 in the ass and cost BCers way more in police, social services, court time and out of pocket expenses."
Liberals calling for a free-enterprise coalition with the BC Conservatives are basically saying that Clark's leadership is negotiable as long as Cummins' is, which is hilarious in all kinds of ways.
- Right-wing Liberals are straight-up pissed-off about Clark, but her stepping down or getting pushed out isn't going to happen. The Liberals can't just blow through 3 premiers in one term. That hasn't even happened in BC before, and we hate our premiers. - Cummins and his VanDerZalmian allies working with anyone except their own egos isn't going to happen. Trust me.
New Democrats are going to pick up, bare minimum, 65 seats. Right-wing Liberal MLA's are either going to bolt to the Conservatives or (more likely) not run in 2013, Conservatives are going to gain a foothold and boot Cummins, and there will be a 4 year scramble to figure out how to create the 3rd incarceration of the free-enterprise coalition.

Will Christy Clark still be B.C. premier by the end of the summer?

The BC Liberal party is already a toxic hairball coalition of Social Credit/Conservative/Liberal/Reform.
What are the chances after the election of a further coalition with the current Conservative party to form a government?
ETA:
Without doing the math I'd imagine the current numbers would still result in a NDP majority.

how are the 2 by-elections going for the NDP?
Very well, although it is probably a toss-up between the NDP and the Cons in Chilliwack-Hope.
It's rather pathetic though to see the press attacking their golden boy Trasolini now that he is running for the NDP.
