A decent piece on Wiebo from the Alberta Diary.  Much better than the thinly veiled character assassination in most MSM reports.

Quote:

Environmental activist and religious leader Wiebo Ludwig has died of cancer, the Edmonton Journal reported. He was 70. Here is a reprint of my profile of Mr. Ludwig and review of the the film about his exploits, first published on Alberta Diary on Oct. 24, 2011, under the headline "Wiebo Ludwig, fierce and ailing at 69, brings his inescapable star power to Edmonton."

A horrible sexist misogynist but I do respect his enviromental stance minus his killing of a teenage girl

They never charged anyone for the death of the teenage girl ....it's entirely possible that too was a drty trick gone awry..very suspicious. Especially when you delve a little deeper.

DirtyTricks

RIP Ludwig.. Truly a Canadian hero that didn't allow himself to be intimadated by terrorizing oil companies or their protectors and enablers I sure learnt a lot from his fight .....Can't wait for his book...and I will be dedicating my next song to him.

Funny ,no media is mentioning this...and one of the biggest lessons any environmentalist should know ..Is that the police ..rcmp ..etc are not for you the victim or even on your side but serve and are controlled by terrorists / justice system  and the government ...I hope no Canadian gets to experience that feeling of betrayal...when you KNOW they defend true terrorists! Ludwig proved they will stop at nothing to intimidate and frame like little terror puppets.

Then you get governments like Harpers cons that want to destroy the tools people use to thwart such crimes ie: environment impact studies/assessments and the vote.

Provide the evidence for this slander of a man who just died. The RCMP tried for years to pin it on him and they didn't have the evidence.  Maybe you should have taken your evidence and given it to them so he could have been tried before he died.

I do agree that your other premise might be true since his christian views are a matter of record. Ludwig most certainly believed he was granted the god given right to lead his family. So indeed he is more than likely a sexist misogynist. Seems that the idea that the husband rules the family is almost a central tenet of many sects including large ones like Catholics.

Its not a premise. Look at his stated sermons when he was a minister in Goderich. The outrage there was part of the reason for his move out west.

And someone shot the girl there with ludwig saying well its her parents fault for bad parenting

That doesn't say someone there shot her(it's obvious someone did) ..it says that the locals should of known better to harass someone who is targeted by the rcmp , given the framing and criminal activity sourronding the whole mess...Like come on ...what parent is going to send there kids out to harass an accused bomber with guns , especially given the reaction of his fellow Albertans?

Now would the framers be in glee to have a situation where they can pull off a criminal act and have the Ludwigs suffer the consequences? That seems to be  the nature of what transpired there. Maybe there will be closure in the book...I sure hope he doesn't suggest the unthinkable.....but oil and gas companies are responsible for the death of 25,000 Canadians a year and not to many people give a shit about that do they?  God help the framers if he does suggest such a thing in the book.

edited to say.....If you can't rap your head around the rcmp ostrasizing people look no furthur than the recent killing of the Polish fella ...where they blew your tax money flying to Poland trying to dig up dirt on the poor man just so you can say " He was a drunk and deserved to die"..and turn people against him...Nope the rcmp are experts in ostrasizing and in some cases it does result in killings ..so take that for what it's worth. Perhaps visit this site ...just to see whats new in our Harper killing fields...

peek a boo

Holy smokes ..been a dogs age since I've been to that site ....man things are deteriating fast under Harper...I hope we get a better government for the new head guy to work under and fix the mess.

A lot of the anti-Wiebo diatribes focus on the fact that Ludwig was the leader of a fundamentalist cult that held archaic (by contemporary liberal standards) views on the role of women in society. That is neither here nor there. Rural Alberta is home to many cult-like religious communities who hold archaic views on the role of women in society.

For the most part, the rest of Alberta doesn't have a problem with them.

...

So who was Wiebo Ludwig?

By all accounts he was a neighborhood bully.

He was also a radical Christian environmentalist who truly believed that the wholesale rape of the land by Big Oil was a sin before God. He gave gas-well safety a profile it never had before, and all rural Albertans can thank him for that.

Let that be his legacy.

Sooooooooooooooo..... a guy who was forced to leave his congregation in Ontario because of horrific misogynistic views is reborn as an environmental hero in Alberta.

A murdered girl? Details, details.

That would be the case of Karmen Wills, who was shot to death while riding with her friends on the Ludwig farm. What happened, we don't know, and it is quite plausible that someone in the Ludwig family was involved. It also reflects on the RCMP, since for whatever reason, they were not able to hold Karmen's murderer accountable.

Her name was Karman Willis.  Short version, late one night in 1999 two pickup trucks full of teenagers drove onto Ludwig's farm at Trickle Creek and were doing donuts outside his house.  Someone on the property fired at least 1 shot that hit the cab of one truck, if I remember the details correctly the bullet passed through a boy's arm or shoulder and continued on to fatally would Karman.

The above article sums things up probably as well as any. If you want more just google Karman Willis or Karman Willis shooting and you'll get all sorts of articles.

In my opinion Ludwig was no hero. He is just very lucky that none of his "activities" in the oil patch killed anyone.

re: Karman Willis

According to Ludwig, the joyriders were driving recklessly in an area where there were children sleeping in a tent. So he(or whomever fired the shot) may havee been justified in thinking he should use whatever means neccessary to get them to stop. Pick up truck hits a tent, not good.

Of course, had the bullet hit the driver of the truck, the situation coulda become worse, since there would be then no one steering the truck. And Ludwig didn't do himself any PR favours with his remarks to the press in the wake of the shooting...

While he claimed to be "sad" for the parents of the dead girl, he said they needed to reflect on why their daughter was out at that time of the night in the company of "wild young teenagers." That may be hard for them to digest, he acknowledged. "But I think in time we're going to realize that we've pampered our kids, that we're raising a reckless generation."

If the gun was really fired to protect the children in the tent, Ludwig should have just said "Look, what was I supposed to do? They were endangering peoples' lives", and spared us the social commentary.

Somehow it sounds like the new Conservative ..warning shots are cool and necessary  law in the news recently. Well now we know the result of such a law. Turn your neighbourhood into a killing war zone.
