Didn't see anything current on the situation in Sudan...

Between this and Tunisia things are getting politically interesting in the Arab world.

The intense discussion of the Sudanese vote, played out in the media across the region, touched on such relevant issues as the validity of international borders drawn by the area's European colonizers after World War I, the supremacy of citizenship over sectarian and religious affiliation and how big a part regional, non-Arab powers like Israel and Iran play in allegedly fueling dissent among minorities in the Middle East.

The Balkanization of Sudan

http://www.voltairenet.org/article168198.html

"With outcome foretold, the recent revelation on the 'independence' of oil rich South Sudan is part of a deeper agenda bearing little relation to human rights concerns The real question is not if, but who has been stoking the fires of conflict and violence in Sudan.."

Well according to NDPP's article Clooney must be a CIA/Israeli agent provocateur. Personally I think this has fail written all over it per NDPP's article: this isn't a freedom movement its yet another CIA/Israeli plot.

China needs to hurry up and finish that super carrier they are building.

I am still waiting for China to engage in joint naval operations with the Sudanese Navy.  Maybe a few life fire exercises to show the world that the Sudanese government still has the right to defend itself.

I have posted some material on this to the 'African Affairs Western Agendas' thread. There is also some additional analysis here:

Sudan/Darfur Is Test-Case for Obama's 'Humanitarian' Aggression

Thats strange that the Black left in America acording to BAR dosn't seem to think there's a problum in Sudan/Darfur... aside for the USA/west being there.

A good read that left me a bit suprised; thanks.

It's more a case of China militarizing (militarily defending) its merchantilism (economic imperialism.)

Q: "What should we do if that happens?"

A: "How good is your (Mandarin) Chinese?"

I was being sarcastic.  I actually tried to learn Mandarin a few years ago and discovered that I not only have no apptitude for languages but also Mandarin's tonal nature was very hard for me to hear.  Speaking of militarized merchantilism how about these babies?  A return to the great age of American gunboat diplomacy.  These boats are designed with the Red Sea and Somalian coast in mind.

Of course if the MIC ever gets them built it will be with government funds, borrowed from the Chinese mostly.

Quote:

The LCS requirement has been identified as part of a broader surface combatant force transformation strategy, which recognizes that many future threats are spawning in regions with shallow seas, where the ability to operate near-shore and even in rivers will be vital for mission success.

That requires the ability to counter growing “asymmetric” threats like coastal mines, quiet diesel submarines, global piracy, and terrorists on small fast attack boats. It also requires intelligence gathering and scouting, some ground combat support capabilities, and the ability to act as a local command node, sharing tactical information with other Navy aircraft, ships, submarines, and joint units.

At the same time, however, the US Navy needs ships that can act as low-end gap-fillers in other traditional fleet roles, and operate in the presence of missile-armed enemy vessels and/or aerial threats.

Given the diversity of possible missions in the shallow-water and near-shore littoral zones, and the potential threats from forces on land, any ship designed for these tasks must be both versatile and stealthy. Meanwhile, the reality of ships that are expected to remain in service for over 30 years gives rise to a need for electronic longevity. As the saga of the USA’s cost-effective but short-lived FFG-7 frigates proved, “future-proofing” and upgradeability for key systems, electronics, and weapons will be critical if these small surface combatants are to remain useful throughout their mechanical lives.

Clooney's ostensible outrage is ridiculous. Like Angelina Jolie, Clooney travels to and from Sudan with official Pentagon and intelligence support and protection. The United States and Israel and our NATO partners are involved in a full-scale military conflagration in Sudan involving guerrilla and covert operations forces. This should be exposed like the Iran Contra scandal - but of course all the US government officials know what is going on. The US covert war against Islamic Sudan began in 1990 and through decades of simmering low-intensity warfare we have slowly but surely eroded the power of the Khartoum government and usurped their sovereign lands through all kinds of mass atrocities paid for by US taxpayers.

The very same U.S. and Israeli military and intelligence officials involved in genocide and war crimes and regime change in Sudan are responsible for these same atrocities in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Congo and they are working with George Clooney. These are the same people tied to phony Kony 2012 agenda. Why doesn't Clooney protest the 10 million dead in Congo?

Sudan Oil - War Spiral Could Split World Powers (and vid)

http://rt.com/news/sudan-south-sudan-war-338/

"...South Sudan broke away from its northern neighbour last July after decades of on-off civil war. But the two never agreed on how to share the oil wealth found in the region between the two countries, and the border was never fully demarcated. Meanwhile their border war threatens to provoke a conflict among the permanent members of the UN Security Council

South Sudan is an ally of the US, while Khartoum has close ties with Russia and China. Some reports allege that the West is already providing arms to South Sudan through its Middle Eastern partners. For instance, South Sudan's Al-Intibaha newspaper writes that Israel might be supplying weapons to Juba. There are also persistent rumours that the US plans to set up a military base in South Sudan - the biggest in Africa.."

Its an interesting question.  What about the separation of North Mali  (Azawad)?  Remember Biafra which mobilized many activists in Canada ?  It was in Berlin in 1885, if I remember, that the bounderies were drawn with little regard for Africa's existing political map.  Yes there were many kingdoms and empires not just little isolated villages as our history taught us.  Should the African Union draw up a separation procedure with a Clarity Bill ?

Uganda Warns Sudan Over Threats to Attack South Sudan

http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v6/newsworld.php?id=660621

"Uganda will intervene if the fighting between South Sudan and Sudan escalates into a full scale war, and would not just sit and witness its northern neighbour being attacked, said the CHief of Defense Forces of Uganda, Aronda Nyakairima on Friday. South Sudan is Uganda's biggest export trading partner. If the fighting escalates to all-out warfare, Uganda is likely to lose billions  of US dollars and grapple with a humanitarian crisis as refugees stream across the northern border into its territory.."

'Heglig War Part of Western Conspiracy Against Sudan'

http://presstv.com/detail/238293.html

"The South Sudan Democratic Front Party (SSDFP) says that the war in the oil-rich Heglig town in southern Sudan was part of a Western conspiracy against Sudan, Press TV Reports. 'I think this is an international conspiracy against the Republic of Sudan because there was no reason at all for the government of South Sudan to invade Heglig, which is an internationally recognized territory of Sudan,' Professor Daed De Chad, the party's chairman, told Press TV in an interview on Thursday.."
