He may be locked up but what he has done to media is here to stay as Global is as Black as you can get as Asper takes over when Black goes down the tubes for allegations of fraud.  And although the news isn't black or white the stripes Black is wearing sure are.

Conrad Black's reported return to Canada sparks heated Commons exchange

excerpt:

Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney told NDP Leader Tom Mulcair that privacy rules prevented him from answering questions about reports of Black's return to Canada.

i watched a documentary on him last week. he said if his return was going to be controversial he would not attempt to come back. glad to see it's becoming a cpntroversy. maybe there should be protests at his house in toronto and all over 'cause this is crap.

he sure has got "poor me" down pat! never understood why mom ranted about him too. now i do.

ya know living out of the city rat race ya can sure pay attention to more.

Meanwhile, Omar Khadr, still a Canadian citizen (unlike Black), and guilty of no crime known to Canadian law (unlike Black), is denied entry to Canada and is regularly slandered by the government, with no concern at all for unspecified "privacy rules".

I think it is noteworthy that this thread has remained alive for the whole duration of Black's time behind bars.

He's back.

This might seem like a big issue, but really, the opposition have far more pressing things to concern themselves with, IMO.

To say that Omar Khadr should be let in (as he should, and will be) is not to say that Black should not. I have no problem with him being let back in.

Look at the pricks endorsing Black's return - just on CBC: Rex Murphy, Kevin O'Leary. O'Leary called Black a national treasure. ::)

Boom Boom, he (O'Leary) has also been known to refer to the Athabasca Tar Sands with pretty much the same descriptors.

Well I wouldn't go that far, but neither do I see much value in letting a relatively small matter like this being such a distraction or turned into a game of tit for tat.

Fact is the only reason why he gave up his citizenship in the first place was because Jean Chretien is just as spiteful and nasty as he is. Bottom line for me is the fact that he was born here. The technicalities and his right wing arrogance notwithstanding, there is no good reason to keep him in exile from his homeland.

I am more surprised actually, that the U.S. let him out. When I heard the feds were going to arrest him I was sure it was going to followed by a subpoena over a civil suit.

He is the poster boy for special treatment for the rich.  He renounced this country publicly and with great vigor.  The only reason he is not going to Britain is they refuse to call him Lord anymore.

There is a big difference between him and Khadr and that is Khadr has the rights of a citizen and those rights have been trampled on for years. The rich asshole has no rights but is accommodated immediately.

Nothing to see here look away look away.  No use trying to change the culture bit by bit when the mountain of little distractions is irrelevant and moot. It not like when he gets praised by CBC's high priced right wing assholes it reinforces the view that the 1% rule because they ARE better than the rest of us.

Actually, in terms of getting across the border, I don't see any difference. I have no problem with either of them being allowed in.

He renounced his citizenship because Jean Chretien refused to give him a special dispensation to allow him a peerage. How's that for special treatment?

It doesn't change the fact that he was born here. Given that, unless there was a damned good reason (and nationalist pride being slighted because he opted to renounce his citizenship is hardly that - sorry, I'm not that much of a nationalist that I get my nose out of joint because someone decides to drop his citizenship) there really are no grounds to refuse him.

Sure Black is someone we all love to hate, and with good reason. If the U.S. Feds HAD kept him, and if he HAD been slapped with a civil suit by all the people who were ripped off by what happened with Hollinger I would have no problem with that. If I had lost money on it I would be calling for him to pay.

But they didn't. So as far as I am concerned this whole border thing is a distraction on the same order as changing the words to the national anthem. And as for  the opposition spending time on it, it is a petty waste of time, IMO.

Reopening 'cause we can. And because of this delightful interview with Jeremy Paxman on the BBC murders irony and decent sense:

"You're a criminal."
"You're a priggish, gullible, British fool"

Thx Catchfire that's the best laugh I've had all day.  Lord its hard to be humble when your perfect in every way.

I thought I would never agree with Lord Black but he says the US legal system is not due process but instead is a "fascistic conveyor belt."

CBC had part of the interview today. Hilarious. God, Black is such an insufferable blowhard. Laughing

Lord Tubby doesn't much like criticism, does he?
