babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
Been there, done that. If the domain goes to auction, good luck to you. A small suggestion: register a substitute domain and point it at the site. At least you'd be up and running again shortly and you could spread the new domain around by word of mouth.
or post at Babble and help to bring up the critical mass here. The postings at EnMasse have been very low recently and babble covers the same topics. Although I post at EnMasse as well, I think having the dnizens of Babble and enMasse all posting on one site would lead to better and more lively discussion than the current situation.
After all this time I'm sure the SCOB (Supreme Court of Babbleonia) would grant a blanket pardon. It would also give a chance for the HOB (House of Babblelonia) to consider the question of bannings. We can always use some sober second thought.

...which has been a tad on the dreary side, I agree so y'all come back now, ya hear!?
Caissa, that's helpful but I checked it out -- in effect you're paying $70 to contact the owner of the doman name, who we know already (it's Steve the grand techno god). The site is still registered until 2013, apparently, just not active, so it would just be opening up a negotiation to buy it from ourselves. I've sent a couple of emails to Steve ... but they may not be current email addies.
I tried using the fix CCO suggested but I apparently don't have that file in my system drivers folder. CCO, if you're able to access the site, can you try contacting Steve through the link at the bottom of Today's Active Topics?
Sorry babble for using your site to try and fix our site. :)
I also have access to enmasse, so in case cco isn't around this morning, I just left Steve a PM (copied and pasted your post above) and left him my email address in case he can't reach you. Hope it produces some contact.
ETA: Strangely enough, when I was just on the site, it said there were 19 guests also online. Yet no one has posted since I did last night at 10:33 pm. Extraterrestrials?
Tehanu, I did the moment I noticed the site was down, but if he doesn't have PMs emailed to him, and he hasn't edited his hostsfile, it won't be much help. Kind of a chicken-and-egg thing.
If Tehanu is still reading - any update? I've finished archiving the site in case anything goes wrong... I'm confident the backup won't be needed, but I'll hang on to it just in case.
That's great, unionist! And it's a relief to have that ... push comes to shove, we could register a different domain and just redirect it. I'm hoping your archive won't be needed -- I'm guessing it won't include things like private messages, user info, etc., so I'm still hoping to hear from Steve. Maybe he's off having a wonderful holiday!

Roger that. I tried looking at my own PMs and couldn't do so without logging in, which then took me to the live site. Because I used my own login and password to download the entire site, I'm guessing that others' PMs were no more accessible than they would be on the live site. I think they just weren't downloaded.

In case it's not clear, all EnMassistas are welcome to use this thread and the rest of babble for site-specific concerns for as long as they need. If you like (and I think this is even kind of happening already) we can declare this thread sovereign EnMasse territory a la Holland circa. World War 2.

I'll update as soon as I hear anything.
Steve could very well be on vacation or something. I'd suggest trying him again on Monday?

Excellent. My long-standing plan to set up a duty-free smuggling operation just got a big boost.

It made me want to Sing Sing.
We're bound to catch static if we keep this up.
Enough is enough!!! Could someone please lift the sanctions on Enmassedonia?

Aside from any other consideration, there's the issue of some active EnMassegonians who had gotten themselves banned from here.
Editing to add that I was responding to Caissa at #35 when I wrote: That would leave several years worth of archives stranded.

Let's not forget those who are planning to get themselves banned. Or who have no interest in playing the penitent heretic.
But you know what, we don't really need to go there.
It's all good, and I like carrying my eggs in three or four baskets. Just fix the problem and let's get back to it.
Sure, swine will be airborne and Good Queen Audra will someday return to her throne.
You'll just have to hang out here in the meantime. Welcome back, al-Qa'bong.
Yeah, great to see you here Al-Q, and waving to pogge also!

Surely he'll notice the site is down and notify someone?? Or do something???
It's fun being there with just cco and 6079_Smith, but it tends to limit variety of discussion just a tad.
So it's similar to babble?
Heh heh! Hi al-Qa'bong. Nice to read you here again.
al-Q, good to see you again. You've been missed.
geez, it was like reading the return of "bad lands" - just kidding & good see former posters.

That's terrific. Thanks Unionist!
