babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
Thanks for that contribution, genstrike. Lots of food for thought.
Yeah. Agreed.
You know, I think a healthy way to look at this is as a place that we do not own, but one which we should protect and support.
I know none of us does a perfect job at that, but if for some reason I wound up not posting here anymore, I'd still consider it a place worthy of support.
(hopefully I won't ruin that sentiment by saying I think it is a good thing that the National Post exists too - for different reasons).
Probably we can all agree that this discussion is pointless even though we may arrive at that conclusion for different reasons.
I doubt that we will find any other agreement. People mocking other people's reactions though does create a special feeling for the community. And a rather special desire to want to remain part of it.
If ever I meet up with writer, I'll give her a big northern Ontario bear hug and a peck on the cheek. Shall explain to her that I'm only a man and not perfect. And then when I'm a sufficiently safe distance away, inform her that my virtual name is Fidel of online infamy. Cowardly, yes, but practical I should think.
I was booted a few times for making "racist" comments...I didn't think they were so racist but I certainly learned that there is a much stricter definition of the word than I had been aware of...
The mods didn't lift my temporary ban on their own...I had to lobby the website to have my account reactivated...
But I still love rabble.ca and tell people about it all the time
I left during the schism and came back about a year later. Then I left again, mainly over the direction of the moderation.I don't miss this place much anymore as the schism really fractured the sense of community.
Way back when I joined, in my more right wing days, the moderation here was just to make sure the roof didn't cave in. After all the changes settled down, the moderation seemed to become about shaping the community and the discussions rather than just letting the community grow and flow organically.
As well, having moderators as active participants in conversations as well as controlling them tilted the balance towards how the moderators wanted the conversations to go.
All this changed the tone and made it less honest. Everyone has to check their words at the door, or so it seems to me.
Couple that with the massive evolution of social media such as twitter and facebook and sites like this move to the sidelines. I check in occasionally and there are about the same number of regular posters between Babble and Enmasse. Maybe a few more at Babble but there aren't many new ones, and VERY few old ones.
It seems like it is time for Babble to catch up.It's moved from the mainstream to an eddy on the backwater. For example, tie threads into twitter feeds, link them to social media sites. It would take an upgrade but it has to happen. Right now, babble is for all intents and purposed "so ten years ago". At this point, I can see the site eulogizing Kurt Cobain and promoting leg warmers.
I miss what we once had. But it's gone, and it ain't coming back.
I wish everyone would come back. I want to see all the familiar posters getting up in each others craw. Dammit why does only the good shit get ruined. Ego.
Does your mother know you're posting on an adult forum?
I've just been sippin from this bottle you passed me. Strong stuff.
How many fingers am I holding up?
I can't tell...the Inquisition has me blindfolded and I think the Thought POlice has connected electrodes to my head.
Yeah. Agreed.

Chocolate mustaches and it's not even Movember, er Chocembre. At least two potential "company men" here looking for promotions. lol!
You are right Fidel, I have been a coward. I feared for the life of my user account and so I toed the party line.
But you are right and I see it now. I'm singing your tune, man. The INQUISITION has gone OVER the TOP.
We must rise up. This is bigger than all of us. They might kill our user accounts but they can never kill an idea.
That's nice. I've flagged it and likely to no avail. There's never anyone home. I think it's a false flag dead letter address.
Listen dude, I'm agreeing with you, and you talk to me like that?
lol!

EnMasse appears to be down again.
I was just there, but thanks for the warning.
Oh, its backup. I was afraid I had been banned.
About time, you shit-disturber.

I have no idea what has been going on on babble for the better part of...two years now?
I do as well.

Hi Heywood - great to see you!
