I decided to use this old thread rather than start a new one.
Three developments this week:
1. James Moore says BC is not a doormat for Enbridge. Trying to save his seat in BC. Same for other Con MPs in BC.
2. The Premier of the Northwest Territories suggested using the Mackenzie Valley pipeline to ship tar sand product north to tankers in the Arctic instead of the Enbridge/Northern Gateway route.
3. Harper set a deadline of December 2013 for the Northern Gateway hearings to finish, and the government will make it's decision by June 2014 - a year ahead of the next federal election, so the pipeline does not become an issue in the next federal election. (Harper seems to forget BC has a provincial election coming up...)
In Calgary, realization that the Enbridge pipeline might not go through is beginning to mount, and alternative routes are being considered - shipping by train instead, and expanding the existing pipeline to Vancouver (Burnaby?).

Here is some audio from a talk Robyn Allan gave in several communities in northern BC regarding the proposed Enbridge pipeline. She presented to the panel as well. Her analysis focuses mainly on the economic argument against this proposal, which is substantial, but she also talks about Enbridge's poor environmental record. ..today, in vancouver, there was an attempt to deliver a letter to a corporation called apache. this company is wanting to build a fracking pipeline called the pacific trails pipeline that runs through unis’tot’en territory. here a camp has been set up and is barring the road to any that have the intention of contributing to that pipeline.
..we were unable to deliver that letter as the whole of the 16th floor of the building that houses apache had been sealed. If that was not enough there were at least a dozen police blocking the entrance to the building itself both inside and out. anyone wanting to enter were asked to produce id and state there business.
..the letter itself was from the unis’tot’en people and was instead read out to the 200 or so people who had gather in support of the camp and

against all pipelines that are not consentual. the theme of the demo was NO CONSENT NO PIPELINES. it was a pretty good turnout for a short notice, noon time demo and bodes well for future events.

Please pass this message to those who organized the ralley in front of Apache Oil on Tuesday. Tomorrow Thursday Nov 29th is a big day the the new convention center. The BC Federation of labour will at some point through out the day be debating the topic of the proposed OIL PIPELINES . This debate will be very divisive as it is no doubt such project would create a lot of jobs but of course at what cost to the environment. I am persoannly opposed to the pipelines and support you fully in fighting them off. This is why when tomorrow morning as over 1600+ delegates reperesenting over 50 + unions eneter the buidling I suggest a few people outside with signs like the ones that were at the ralley in front of the Apache oil office. As the debate heats up I have no doubt you will have the power to inspire some people to do whats right and speak on the mics in defense of our indigenous people and the right to their land!
Convention starts at 9am people will be coming in earlier come no later than 8:30 . ALSO the leader of the official opposition Thomas Mulcair of the FEDERAL NDP will be making a speech at the convention that morning. YOU MUST BE PRESENT IN THE MORNING TO HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD OUTSIDE THE BUILDING IN A PEACEFUL WAY!!

Risks not worth it

Re: Pipeline is near schools, Burnaby NOW, Nov. 28.
I, too, am a parent concerned about the Kinder-Morgan pipeline's effect on Burnaby schools. Not only are three schools close to the current pipeline - Stoney Creek, Lyndhurst, and Forest Grove - but it also passes within a block of Burnaby North Secondary School, Capitol Hill Elementary School and Confederation Park Elementary School. At the intersection of Gamma and Dundas, it passes by the corner of my child's school playground in Confederation Park.
When this same pipeline broke in North Burnaby in 2007, it sprayed oil on houses over 100 metres away, contaminating gardens and even getting inside open windows. 250 residents had to be evacuated.
Surely we cannot afford to increase the risk of this hazard for six of our local schools.

A National Energy Board report reveals that Trans Mountain Pipeline operators ignored warning alarms for three-and-a-half hours before responding to a gasket failure that resulted in a crude oil spill last January at its Sumas tank farm near Abbotsford.

Sign of solidarity, the one I wore at kinder morgan's open house of ill-truth. This was on Snuneymuxw Territory, I felt that many people came out to support the ideals of loving sacredness, and not loving the ideals of pipelines.
FNLP Meeting in Moricetown Raised Tempers
Tempers flared as the Pacific Trails Pipeline was the subject of an information session held in Moricetown last night. Unis’tot’en Clan of the Wet’suwet’en Nation has set up a blockade last month to stop surveyors of the project to come through.
The information session was for the public to find out the potential benefits of the natural gas pipeline, but before the representatives on the First Nations Limited Partnership could finish, they were interrupted by protest. Members of the Unis'tot'en clan traveled from their blockade to say that no information session should be held, since they already said no. Dini Ze Toghestiy of the Unis'tot'en Clan “Attempting to disempower us as people in the decision making power, because they got up and said that 15 nations got up and signed up for the agreement, that it would be next to impossible for them to get out of the agreement, that this was going to happen whether we like it or not and it's not something that we are going to take.”....
