I had the opportunity to sit in at the Sarnia City Council meeting that addressed and voted on the $120,000 gift from Harper to protect our buses. I was sooo glad that our council laughed off the offer. The three members who voted for the money only did so because they assumed that the turd Harper would soon demand that our bus system be terror-proofed, with the entire cost going to the municipality.
I was actually at council to protest the McCallum report concerning Logan Pond, and was fortunate to see that all our political leaders aren't stunted yes men/women to the USA.

Hope you didn't act too hastily, Zak. I've long been of the opinion that if Al Quaeda came to Sarnia, they would totally take the bus.
Seriously, my husband was born and raised in Sarnia, and he was so pleased by that ruling, he was almost ready to move back.
Were any local area residents in favour? My husband thought maybe you could take the money and then re-allocate it to "general revenues." But you probably couldn't get away with that.

I wouldn't take this so lightly. Al Queda has already struck in London.
They have savagely left our transit system alone, and the suffering is great.

Well it is a good thing the rural Canada does not have a public transport system. We are safe except for high gas prices.

I don't think any of the residents are aware that there is a city council.
If there were an attack in Sarnia, I'd put my money on white christian radicals. More likely, some Homer J Simpson in the plants would just be drunk, causing major devastation when he pushed a wrong button, or no button at all.
If your husband is thinking of coming back, try try try to talk him out of it.

I bet the Sarnia transit union would be disappointed.
There have been numerous attacks on transit drivers and passengers in the last year. The Calgary and Edmonton unions are upset that little if no money has been spent on GPS tracking systems, panic alert systems, in bus camera systems, etc.
The comments about Al Quaeda are funny but completely miss the point on how the funding could protect bus drivers and passengers.

I've heard first hand accounts about safety in the public transit systems of Calgary and Edmonton from drivers. One fellow has been shot or stabbed on repeated occasions. There, safety must be a high priority, but Sarnia is a little different. We are a small border city that shuts down bus service quite early. In my own jilted oppine, our bus drivers are more of a danger to us than the other way around.
I think men like Dion and Harper are more deserving of our terror than most 'Islamists'.
