Jerry West on global warming.
Jerry writes (at the end of his column): Unless those with wealth and power can find a good way to profit from the sacrifice it may not happen before it is too late.
When exactly are we going to start to admit - even to ourselves, if not collectively - that is already IS too late?
The polar ice cap is going to be gone by 2030, estimated 'conservatively'.
Is there nothing that can actually mobilize a population as technologically decorticated as ours?
Obviously it is worthless to look to governments to do anything - so what's next?

Hey, welcome to babble! I'm just going to move this to the rabble features section, since the "rabble reactions" forum is less about discussing articles than it is about discussing the mechanics of the site.

Oh, no sweat. They have already learned to profit from sacrificing the earth. All is well.

And use that as an excuse for doing nothing? Too late for what? Too late to prevent anthropogenic climate change? We've been causing it for centuries if not millenia. Too late to prevent worst case scenarios? Probably not, but the longer we wait the longer the odds and the more difficult and expensive action will be.
But doing nothing leading up to crisis situation is what disaster capitalism is all about according to Naomi Klein. The neoLibercons will use the next Katrina as a cover for privatizing public schools. Capitalists will use the next Indonesian disaster as an excuse to snap up prime beachfront property after scores of poor people are killed or made homeless. It's about their freedom not ours. Keep on rockin in the free world.
