spurlock a racist?

so they guy who ate mcdonalds for a month decides to get into some traditional muslim clothing and run around the middle east looking for osama bin laden. is this really a documentary, or just a way to prance around the middle east in a comedic manner? i saw the trailer, and the whole indiana jones theme going on just made me think that the muslims are being treated like the nazis. "where in the world is osama bin laden" is the movie, trailer if interested.trailer if interested

I've got an idea.

Watch movie first.
Then form opinion.

Hard to say. Based on the trailer it could be a spoof on the whole deal.

it just seems like another instance where an american goes running around trying to make things right with his brand of humour.

Sounds like Borat.

Looks satirical to me:

quote:

Following bin Laden’s trail through some of the most dangerous places in the world, Spurlock encounters both the rational and the radical faces of the Middle East. He interviews many people who embrace him on the streets and welcome him into their homes, often gaining impressions that sharply contrast with the conventional media images of the region. Spurlock finds they’re not that different from American families, sharing the same hopes and fears for their children that he has for his own.
In a world where we are constantly being told that we’re on the verge of the ultimate showdown between good and evil, Spurlock risks life and limb to uncover the truth about Osama bin Laden. But along the way, he discovers the lines that divide us aren’t nearly as black and white as the heroes and villains we see in the Westerns.

The sad thing is that someone had to "discover" this.

quote:

In Europe and America, there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mr. Krushchev said we will bury you
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It would be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too
--Sting 1985

White men sure are helpful to bring such "knowledge" to everyone, aren't they?

Interestingly. Krusheov's "we will bury you" comment has been largely misrepresented in the western media, in much the same manner as Mr. Amedinejad's comments about Israel. The full qoute in context is as such:

quote:

Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you.

The implication is much more akin to "we will outlive you," not explicitly "we will kill you", as Sting seems to believe.

Well, yes, there is that. On the other hand, that's probably where the intended audience is at.

What I was trying to say is that Sting is an idiot.

I think Spurlock is a little late... HOWEVER that might be his saving grace, the fact that it seems like alot of people seem to have forgotten or given up on trying to solve the Osama issue. Maybe he can offer a fresh perspective. I liked Supersize Me, I thought he made a good fat guy.

supposedly he just walks up to some sign that says "pass this sign and you will be killed", so he just turns around and goes home...

what i ment to say

i don't think anyone here has watched the movie ...i liked Team America

I think that the racist, classist, fatist overtones in his McDonald's movie were enough to make me think twice before seeing this dude's Orientalist adventure.

If movies were free than it might be okay to argue that we should watch it before we talk about it. Unfortunately movies cost money so all the puritans who think we should wait in silence miss the point that once you paid, Spurlock has won - no matter how much of a piece of shit his movie might be.

If you can't spare the four dollar rental, then download it - at least have a clue before you decide to paste your turd label on someone's work.

Care to elaborate? And what exactly is fatist?
