Contemporary Racism in Canada

I've been blessed to have grown up in Toronto, Canada. One of the only modestly successful(i hope that means some inching forward in human relations) multicutural experiments anywhere.
Growing up, my friends were of every color, creed and character. My life continues daily
with friends, co-workers, relatives and clients of the same. Many of my friends have been racists. Perhaps, in my formative years, I carried some beliefs that make me ill today.

Ask yourself this, do you get worried about being pulled over in downtown Toronto, outside Winnipeg?

Are you often the recipient of poor service at places of business?

Are you persistently followed around in stores while you try to shop?

I'm with you all against ALL racism. Just let me know when I need to file a discrimination complaint in Canada for you and I'll be happy to oblige.

This board is frequented mainly by Canadians speaking about progressive Canadian ideas. Do you expect progressive POC to venture into this culture? Just what exactly is this board's mission when it comes to anti-racism? I ask honestly. I'm not sure how this started a while back.

I will not speak of AP because unfortunately in Toronto, I didn't have the pleasure of knowing any AP well. But their struggles in the rest of Canada are well-documented.

I'm sorry if my posts don't come across well. I read them and I sound smug and spent 3 hours tonight trying to figure out a way to try and connect. I've tried to spend more time on this one because it's a cause I believe in and am trying to be respectful. I've deliberately left something out because I've known it to be POC's best friend.

How do people feel about contemporary racism in Canada, what it is and how do we fight it?

Yes, funny how in this "modestly successful multicultural experiment" this can be the case. Toronto has the largest population of Indigenous people in Canada and yet... shows you how invisible and strong the apartheid regime really is.

I think that the question that you are asking has been answered many, many times in many different ways by many different people. Without being rude, may I suggest that you do some research yourself? Expecting racism to be explained to you (when there has been so much effort spent by racialized people and Indigenous Peoples explaining racism to us white folk) is, well... racist. In that part of racism is white-supremacy. If you were to look through the history of this forum you would find many threads that contain links to resources and discussions that might help you. Again, I am not attacking you personally, just engaging with your question as best I can.

Thanks LT, I have read many archived posts. I was responding more to the here and now situation in the Anti-Racism forum.

Any links for the stats on Indigenous populations? And I was admitting the colonial prejudice.

Thanks Makwa. How is that document received? I have some problems with the last paragraph.

I am a little tired of being serious and fighting, as we have been doing a lot of that lately, and I dont want to distract, but I just wanted to say that in a positive light this has been my experience of Toronto. The good as well as the bad.

By the way, the first thing you ever said to me on this board was "Fuck you!" It was a pretty straight up assessment of what you thought of what I said, and I just wanted to day that I appreciated the straight talk, and that I have no bones about it.

Keep it up.
