How do you embed a youtube video?

Can someone please explain how to embed a youtube video on babble? So the Video shows up on babble, and doesn't have to be viewed via a link to youtube.com

the format that works on other boards is , but that doesn't work here. Can someone please explain what does work here?

ETA: I just figured out that you have to post the code from the youtube site from where it says embed. It seems that since this software was made before youtube, it doesn't accept the youtube UBB code.

You have to be viewing a a youtube video page which has html code for embedding/sharing, like that one. One single left mouse click on the elongated rectangular text field, directly beneath the heading "customize" on the far right, and you you should see all of the HTML code highlighted in a dark shade of blue, or whatever colour. When you see that, right-click and select copy. At that point, all of the code for embedding the video is copied to a temporary memory buffer.

Go to a babble thread and click "reply" or new post button. Check that the thread is actually enabled for HTML. It'll say so on the far left of the "Post a Reply" page in red font.
Right-clik on an empty white space and select paste. That should work

UBB doesn't seem to care if you just use the Youtube-supplied HTML to embed the video. However, it's a bit more courteous to babble's low-bandwidth users if you just post the video as a plain link, especially if there's likely to be a number of videos in the thread.

Any way of being more courteous would be for dailup users to turn graphics off when viewing Babble. That is really the most fair solution to a problem that affects only a small number of users.

I fail to see the necessity of embedding YouTube links in a thread rather than just linking to the YouTube page. In fact, the latter has the advantage of giving access to further background information about the video, seeing related videos, etc.

One thing I really hate is when YouTube videos are not only embedded in a thread, but coded to start streaming automatically once the thread is loaded. Now, that's annoying!

Actually, I like embedded videos because it is ever so much more convenient. And people often ignore linked pages, in my exerience. So I always embed. It makes little difference to people on dial-up, or who don't have the right programs because they can not see them anyway, embedded or linked.

In some countries they don't have to put up with cheesy bandwidth or daylight robbery on access fees.

So we can't embed youtube videos on Babble?

Like Cueball stated, I find it's really convenient to have videos embedded, as people just generally ignore links.

Only I can embed YouTube videos. Mwwwahahahaha.

But seriously, I agree that it would be great if everyone could embed videos, but our software is not currently set up that way. Hopefully with the update (when it comes) that will change. Sorry!

Yes, an update would be greatly appreciated. I find this message board is kind of outdated and especially difficult to copy and paste and edit posts.

In fact, phpBB forums/message boards are incredible and very, very easy to use and user friendly.

OMG DONT I KNOW IT

Any idea when the update will come?

(Avatars and signatures would be great for the new/updated Babble message board too).
