Banned from Babble

John K

Here's an excerpt from the wikipedia entry for Jeff House who was recently permanently banned from babble:

quote:

Jeffry House was born in Wisconsin, United States of America and grew up in Milwaukee. After a year as an exchange student in Norway, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1969.

House was drafted into the US Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. In January 1970, House evaded the military draft and fled to Canada.

House received a Master's Degree in Political Theory from York University and a Law Degree from the Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He has practiced law for nearly three decades.

For six years, House served as a quasi-judicial court enforcing the Ontario Human Rights Code. His decisions involve an early gay rights case in which spousal benefits were awarded to same sex partners (Clinton & Mercaz), and the Northwestern General Hospital case, where Crown disclosure obligation was held to apply in Human Rights cases.

In 1991, he was counsel on the Osborne decision in the Supreme Court of Canada which struck down the law which prevented public employees from participating in after work political activities.

He has two sons: Alex House (a well-known Canadian television actor) and Patrick House.

Here's an excerpt from the wikipedia entry on Robespierre, (the babbler Jeff supposedly insulted leading to his banning):

quote:

Robespierre believed that the Terror was a time of discovering and revealing the enemy within Paris, within France, the enemy that hid in the safety of apparent patriotism. Because he believed that the Revolution was still in progress, and in danger of being sabotaged, he made every attempt to instil in the populace and Convention the urgency of carrying out the Terror. In his Report and others, he brought tales and fears of traitors, monarchists, and saboteurs throughout the Republic and also the Convention itself.

Robespierre expanded the traditional list of the Revolutions' enemies to include moderates and "false revolutionaries". In Robespierres' understanding, these moderates and "false revolutionaries" were not only ignorant of the dangers facing the republic, but also in many cases disguised themselves as active contributors to the Revolution, who simply repeated the work of others, or even impeded the progress of the patriots. Anyone not in step with the decrees of Robespierres' committee is said to have been eventually purged from the Convention, and thoroughly hunted in the general population. While it is debated whether Robespierre targeted moderates to accelerate his own agenda, or out of legitimate concern for France, it is known that his definition of the word "traitor" led to the execution of many of the Revolutions' original and staunchest advocates.

Robespierre saw no room for mercy in his Terror, stating that "slowness of judgements is equal to impunity" and "uncertainty of punishment encourages all the guilty"

That there is no place on babble for Canada's foremost social justice and human rights lawyer, while anonymous babblers like Robespierre are given free reign to spew their poison reflects poorly on this self-described progressive forum and its moderators.

Will somebody please close this stupid fucking thread?

John, did you do anything to help the situation before it got to this point?
I didn't effin' think so.

Shit this sucks, Jeff was a great poster. Little too much glee among some that makes me wanna puke.

Here was a man who made thousands of posts and M.Spector doesn't even want this thread to remain open for a second. Disgusting.

I get the feeling Jeff was a marked man, that his posts were annoying the right people. Because folks, if "personal attacks" were banning criteria there would be few babblers left.

I know I am slow but I now see that if you piss off the right people the noose will tighten around your neck no matter what you say.

I hate cyber-deaths.

Spector: "Will somebody please close this stupid fucking thread?"

After the revolution there will be no stupidity allowed.

I, for one, can't wait for a reassuringly anonymous group of babblers to set the agenda for the new age, casting aside people working in the so-called real world, with its degenerate capitalist follies influencing their every waking minute.

Excuse me??? You guys think Jeff was banned because he insulted Robespierre? And what the hell was that second wiki entry supposed to do? prove somehow Robepierre is a bad person or something? Tacky tack tacky.

I am not keen on Jeff being banned either. He's a brilliant lawyer and a good person but his banning DID NOT have to do with one insult. And hello? The last thing he posted before being banned was that babble (see that - babble, not one person) supported murderous thugs and fascists. If you are going to start a thread on this at least get the facts straight.

You guys must have an awfully low opinion of the mods on here if you think they are so unfair they would ban someone for one insult. You might as well ignore all the times Jeff has called people commies in almost every single thread near the end here.

Blowing off some steam once in a while is normal, but consistently seeing reds under the bed? Not so much.

Total exaggeration and completely and totally uncalled for. His crime is his user name? Poisonous effects?? Jesus, there are so many people here who truly support poisonous things, such as Israel at all costs, but stating that Robespierre has been spewing poison is just plain wrong and a low blow John K.

Okay, here I go.

I've had intermittent internet access for the past two days, and no access to the moderators' discussions on this or any other babble issue. Plus I'm a volunteer not a staff.

But this thread is about a specific babbler, which, although I know there are strong feelings about the banning of Jeff House, is generally against the rules.

And this thread is turning into a "bash any babbler who you happen to dislike" fest, which is really bumming me out and is generally not a healthy thing to happen here.

So I'm closing this, and I suggest any issues any of you may have to please PM Michelle or oldgoat. Or me for that matter. I'll be back online this afternoon/evening.
