What gets short shrift on Babble? As two general elections are bound to take up 90% of babblers' bandwidth for months, I wonder what other issues, movements, significant developments in society and in personal lives generally have disappeared or never surfaced here? I suggest each of us merely mention one or two of them, with minimum acrimony. If this has ever been the subject of a thread, perhaps a long-timer can link to it? Thanxxx

Changes to Ontario's Child Tax Benefit means the loss of the back to school allowance and winter coat allowance for those on government supports.

What that does mean is actually slightly more money spresd throughout the year, as the tax benifit is no longer clawed back by ODSP?OW, but that clearly gets lost in the monthly pay the rent or buy other neccesities dilema. Having that extra chunk right now was really helpful for my clients who have kids.

The Income Security Action Centre has an [url=http://www.cleonet.ca/news/824]action campaign[/url] organized to fight this, notably by pressuring municipalities to join the protest and use their discretionary funding to make up these allowances for the first year.

We just did 1,250 backpacks for kids this year - double last years. The parents are liking the extra $20 they are getting a month, but that's just going into not going backwards on other bills.

Canada's looming energy crisis. Sure we have the tar sands, but we are being forced harder and faster toward dependence on those dirtiest fossil fuels for the sake of big energy companies and U.S. consumption of Canadian oil and gas. There is no plan for sustainable capitalism. Disaster and crises oriented capitalism lurching from one crisis to the next will become more problematic in the near future. We're headed for meltdown within the next ten to 20 years. Handbasket -- warm place.

Instead of complaining about issues ignored on babble, why don't people just start threads on them?
That's what I always do. Then if others want to ignore them, they are free to do so. But at least I've tried to do my part to bring issues to light.

You are the only one complaining, MS. We are just trying to map neglected areas and express personal priorities, without necessarily having to start a thread about every one of them. (Guess you missed the sentence about acrimony in the OP...)
